Nice item, does what it says
I bought this as a gift - so tried out it to make sure parts works, able to set up, see if there will be any issues.Depending on how you angle the table legs on the floor (bed etc), the width between them runs 21 inches to 24 inches - that's the room you'll have for your legs / hip. The width is such you can easily place this over hip area. Total width is about 25.5 inches - that's how much "floor" space you'll need to use it.It does support a laptop that weights about 6 pounds with no issues. The larger table measures 13.5 inches wide by 10.5 inches. The mouse pad table measures 6.25 inches by 10.5 inches. The ledge you lift up to prevent laptop from sliding off is 6 inches wide by about 1 inch. The cord that connects laptop or whatever to the built in fan in the table has a compartment that it fits in.To adjust the main table from the mouse pad table so each is at a different angle, you'll need to pull it apart. There's an internal screw (metal rod) that holds it together. I also think there may be either a spring or magnet system keeping it together. The easiest way to pull them apart by an inch or so is to place hands as close to the connector between the tables to give you better leverage to pry apart. This is tricky and you'll need to put effort into it. I think for the elderly this will be a problem. After prying and adjusting table angle, you'll then to readjust the legs - therefore adjust table angles first then the legs. After you have the table set up the way you like it, you have a choice: never close it flat again or write down joint angles for left and right side, then tape that info to underside of the table so you know what each angle should be for next time.Although the legs adjust and click into place, you do need strong fingers to push and hold it in as you move the leg into place. An elderly person will have problems with this.I'd have given 5 starts if moving parts easier to move. Love the concept of this item.UPDATE - I decided to return item. Its intended as a gift but to push button in and holding it in while moving leg would be too difficult for them. Pulling tables apart to adjust to separate angles takes a couple of tries. And missing instructions which it vital since I'm mailing this to them - in this case I'm viewing it as a missing part because it's necessary for them to use table. Its not for those without strong fingers and patience.

ok - but not 100% satisfied.
So far so good. But I just started using it last night.I was initially mystified by the two black plastic clips. I had no idea what they were for, until I saw the picture in your email. There should be a picture of them in place on the stand, included on the instruction sheet, as it is in this email. That would be helpful.I paid the extra money for the mouse rest, but I only got a flimsy slotted attachable one. Not the nice built-in one as the picture showed. Also, it desperately needs just one more length of bendable legs. It falls short of being an effective tool to use while seated at the couch or living-room chair, with its legs resting on the floor...And that was the soul purpose of my purchase.And...not that it absolutely NEEDS it...but it sure would be nice to have...that last length of bendable legs be able to be twisted flat as well as bend vertically so that the leg can be made flat to slip under the chair or couch. This way you can get really comfortable by allowing the tray to get as close to you as possible while you sit all the way back in the chair or couch. Although, if I had the extra length of bendable legs, perhaps I would have been able to figure out a way to do that without that extra length needing to be twisted flat. All in all, I'm not 100% satisfied. But I am satisfied enough that I wont be returning it.That said, I also agree with the following:---My computer getting too hot from resting on the blanket. Now i solved that problem.---LOVED it that it's ultra lightweight.---It folds up very, very thin. I can slip this under anything.

Great Construction, But Too Wide For a Sofa
This lap desk is very well made, and it was pretty easy to figure out how to operate the adjustable legs and surface. That being said, getting everything adjusted just right was a bit tricky...almost like working a Rubik's cube. Haha! I purchased this particular lap desk because it was described as being wide. I thought I'd need an extra wide one because I'm a large woman and would need the extra width for the desk to fit over my lap. Well, I was wrong. A narrower one would have worked just fine! The main drawback for this wider lap desk is that when I'm seated on my reclining sofa, one side of the desk wants to slip off the seat. It's actually too wide for me to use it when seated on my sofa. Now, it is perfect for using in bed where there are no cracks for the legs to fall through. But I don't use my laptop in bed. So. If planning to use at your sofa, buy the regular sized one. I have a big bootie, and the regular one would have fit fine. 👍👍
