Very nicely written interpretation
This was great to read and a very insightful explanation of the text. I recommend reading the story first (second half of the book) and then the intro (first half of the book) so you don't spoil the story. As a first time reader of Gilgamesh I'm glad I realized this early and skipped to the interpreted text first.

Not just for scholars - it’s a great story
A wonderful accessible version. I first read this many years ago and bought this to read to my 10yo son - I’d forgotten how much sex there is in it so I had to reinterpret some as I read it, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. I was so pleased that he took the themes of brotherhood and companionship in so readily and sympathised with Gilgamesh’s grief and final acceptance of his mortality. We love that the oldest known written poem in history represents humans as we understand them today. May he one day build his own fantastic walled city.
