4.5 Doubt Stars!
Really liked this book and couple, probably as much as Anya and Lucien. Loved their couple dynamic, and how Sabin wasn't a manwhore (hallelujah). He had his past loves but it wasn't annoyingly mentioned all the time which was good. Him and Gwen together was the best too. She was sweeter but had a darker side, and he had a more hardened personality but his sweeter and caring side came out for only her. The entire book was definitely a page turner which is great because the last book was just okay.Overall, great book and I'm excited to finally start on Aerons!

Very good addition to the series :)
4 starsThis was a very good story. I liked Gwendolyn and Sabin...even though they both had personality traits in the beginning that I wasn't exactly thrilled with. The story was pretty good and did well at keeping me engaged.Gwendolyn "the Timid" is a harpy that's not at all comfortable with her darker half. To be honest, it seems like she's mostly come to the conclusion that she's weak based on the fact that her mother is convinced her father was an Angel and this will obviously make Gwen a weak harpy. Gwen has 2 older sisters that love her dearly but they tend to protect her to the point of smothering.Sabin is one of the immortals that were responsible for the opening of Pandora's box and releasing the most evil demons upon the world. The Greek gods decided that the demons should be bonded with the men responsible as a way to imprison the demons and punish the men. Sabin is host to the demon of doubt.Sabin is probably the most fervent fighter against the hunters that have been trying to kill/imprison the LotU most of their existence. He'll do anything to fight them and in the past, his unrelenting need to fight the hunters caused a schism between the LotU and the 2 groups just recently started working together again. In a search for an artifact that the hunters are also after, Sabin and company come across a temple that the hunters turned into a prison for immortal/paranormal women. They soon realize that the hunters were using the women as breeding stock in order to raise halfling hunters to fight the LotU. Gwen is one of the women imprisoned (although luckily she couldn't be drugged and the hunters found her too dangerous to touch) and Sabin is the one to rescue her. Once she's free, Gwen's harpy comes out in response to a hunter and Sabin suddenly sees Gwen as a possible weapon. The LotU let all the other women go but Sabin insists on taking Gwen home with them. Gwen could escape but doesn't when she has the chance and she's not sure why. She's strongly attracted to Sabin but she's not exactly happy at the idea of being his weapon that he just wants to point and shoot. Sabin is attracted to Gwen but his demon is desperate to cause doubts and since Gwen is so timid already, Sabin is sure she'd never be able to handle his demon. He tries to keep things distant between them because of this, but that doesn't last very long. Things get more interesting when Gwen's sisters come to see how Gwen is doing and of course the hunters make themselves annoying multiple times. Sabin and Gwen's relationship isn't easy...especially since he made clear to her in the beginning that he'd do anything (including cheat on a girlfriend) to win the war against the hunters. Thankfully, Sabin pulls his head out of his butt and he and Gwen are able to work things out, ending the story with a HEA together. This was a very good story. I liked Gwen. In the beginning, I didn't like her being weak/timid but it wasn't done in an overly annoying way and she soon evolved and grew which made me like her even more. Sabin started out so callous and it made me have some trouble liking him at first but he soon turned things around. The story was very good and kept me interested throughout so I'd recommend it and the series (so far). :)* note - I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a very good job.

Another great Lord!
I wasn't so sure of Sabin in the first few books...I really thought his..."the war comes before all other things" was really going to be a hard obstacle to cross. Of course it would be a Harpy who brings him to his knees. And Gwen was the perfect combination of a sweet, gentle unsure child and a hard, I will rip your throat out, badass. And the sisters...OMG but I love them and the banter between the three (four if you count Gwen) And boy do they love chaos...and speaking of chaos throw Anya in the mix and watch out...too much fun!Still can't wait to read about Paris but now I want to see what happens with poor Gideon (not gonna tell you what happened to him but it was bad and I wanted to hurt someone for him) and I'm hoping the harpy sisters get their own story(ies)AND OH...throwing Nucking Futs Nix from Immortals After Dark in the mix...BRILLIANT! The Kresley Coles series is another of my favorites and since she mentioned Nix in this book I may have to read iThem again! :-)

Sabin
Sabin is very protective of Gwen, "is that right?" Sabin asked her. "He hurt you?" Cheeks heating in mortification, she nodded. Emotionally, he'd destroyed her. Sabin ran his tongue over his teeth. "He'll pay for that. You have my word." Also the boy needs to learn not to mess with his woman's cake, "shall I take half?" he asked before letting go. Black began to swirl in her eyes, obliterating gold. Maybe not. He raised his hands, palms out, and she stuffed the second cake into her mouth. The black faded, the gold returning." Sabin that boy...all I can say is I loved him, "I'd already decided to mark you." There was determination in his tone. Determination so cold and hard she doubted a blade could cut through it. "But this..." His gaze swept over her body. "By gods, I'll mark you every day if I have to. You will only ever think of me." You need to learn one thing about Sabin and that's never doubt his sexual expertise, "her gaze skittered away from him. "It was okay, I guess." He popped his jaw. It was okay. She guessed. She effing guessed. By gods, he'd give her another demonstration." Gwen she's really an innocent and it's so cute to see her get Sabin riled, "I'd rather study your tattoo," she said huskily. "I didn't get a chance to trace it in the shower, and I've been dreaming of tracing it." Dear Lord. Talk about the ultimate come-on." I enjoyed this book I liked it a lot.

Another brilliant part to the series
Loving the series. Read the books a few times, wait for a few to be released and reread again. Sabin and Gwen's story is one of my favourites. There love hangs in the balance a few times. Stubborn Sabin must start to admit to his feelings before timid Gwen can see what's in front of her face. The lords hunt for the immortal children, and the results I feel could have been explained more over thos and the next few stories, but hey ho. Good read

Fantastic!
I have been an avid fan of this series and couldn't wait for this book! The hero of this novel is Sabin the keeper of Doubt. For thousands of years he has survived carrying the demon of doubt, always hearting its poisonous voice about his deepest thoughts. He has ceased taking lovers after the last, Darla, was driven to suicide by his demon, he doesn't want to see another love one die. Continuing the search for the artefacts that will lead them to Pandora's box the Lords arrive in Egypt finding more then they bargained for.Gwen has been held captive in the pyramid for a year, kept prisoner by the hunters as they try and fulfil their sinister plans. She is a harpy, an immortal being of immense power; however she isn't what you think. Although born to be a merciless killer she cannot bear the thought of hurting other living beings earning her the nickname of Gwendolyn the timid. Losing hope every day of ever being rescued she can't believe her luck when Sabin and his men barge in freeing her from her ungodly prison. She is instantly taken with Sabin but also afraid, not just of him but the damage she could do to him if she ever lost control.Upon seeing Gwen, Sabin can't believe his luck. He had no hope of the war between the Lords and the Hunters ever ending, seeing the rest of his life surrounded by war. But Gwen could be the weapon he has been looking for, all he needs to do is convince her but that could be more difficult then he imagines. As well as trying to teach her to control her inner harpy he also has to fight the growing attraction he feels for her. He will not allow doubt to take another from him and will do anything to keep her at a distance. War is the most important thing in Sabin's life but can Gwen change that? This was a brilliant book and a definite must read, Sabin was a great hero, both sweet and dangerous. Gwen works well as the female protagonist although taking longer to warm up to then the others in the series but she eventually loses the clinginess and becomes more of her own person. Although mostly Sabin and Gwen's story there are also chapters about Aeron and his mysterious new stalker, Paris and the effect of losing Sienna has on him and we even see more of Gideon and how he deals with his demon of lies. Rather then complicating the story it adds to it making it a more real and believable world and letting you know more about the different characters.

Least favourite book so far (spoilers contained)
I've liked Sabin in the previous books, and looked forward to getting to know him better in his own story, but I almost put the book down multiple times. Far too controlling to be likeable, and Gwen just irritated the hell out of me. I found her downright pathetic in some places. The ending felt too hasty and wrapped up too nicely - the halfling kids have been brought up since birth hating demons and living together, but they get one sentence about how they're being settled with human families once they've been rescued? I doubt (pun intended) it would be that simple! The storyline itself lags and doesn't really go anywhere. I'll read the next book and decide if I'll carry on, if it's anything like this one, I'll be saying goodbye to the Lords of the Underworld :(

The Harpies are here!
I really like this book! Sabin, the tough, rough, keeper of Doubt gets well and truly trampled by the timid harpy Gwendolyn - who is certainly more than she appears.Fun, action-packed and certainly romantic, this book has it all. It’s a great addition to the LotU series. Watch out for the huge bombshell towards the end of the book!Galen has been a very naughty demon...

Another action packed and emotional installment in this addictive series!
This is a good story, although I didn't love it as much as the previous books I still enjoyed reading it and the series as a whole has become one of my favourites.I don't think that this book can be read without having read the previous ones. The background story arc (main threat) is still ongoing as well as giving us some teaser romantic sub-plots to look forward to in future books.I find Ms Showalter's writing style very easy to read and enjoy the twists, turns, action and passion that she fills her stories with. I will be downloading book 5 - The Darkest Passion - in this addictive series.
