Lonely Planet Experience Thailand

Light Weight
The Lonely Planet country guide to Thailand is the gold standard for guide books to Thailand, but beware, it’s not this book! This is the “Experience” guide. You could possibly use this to get some ideas of what to do, but not how, when, or where. Being light weight and lacking depth is one thing, but the book also seems to be riddled with errors, even though I’ve only skimmed it so far. Bangkok is, apparently “totally walkable”. No it isn’t! Beer costs 4B. Clearly a typo. People near the Lao border speak Lao? Actually 23 million Thais speak Lao across the whole of Isaan. Disappointing.

Not what I expected
I ordered this as it was the most recent lonely planet guide to Thailand published but buyer beware as it is just generalised points about Thailand - which comprehensive though they are - aren’t what I wanted from a lonely planet guide - the listings and area by area recommendations for food , hotels and attractions that are crucial for me a traveller who doesn’t want to spend my holiday on my phone - aren’t here - which was disappointing. I bought the rough guide which does have all of that !

Not very useful as a guide
Contrary to other Lonely Planet guides we found this one fairly useless as it only covers a few events by location.
