So we had this custom island top made ... 3” butcher block - maple top ... 400 lbs!!! It was beautiful. Then we did as we were told and put mineral oil on it ... over and over and over. It never stopped drinking it in... so after 8-9 applications we quit. A year later we were still wicking oil on all paper that got set on the counter top. It Ruined many papers and oil spotted all our napkins. The worst thing was our beautiful maple top turned “amber”. Now know this - we bought a house with all this golden oak stained wood ... golden oak my “#*%” ... it was orange. I guess it “ambers” over time too! How disappointing after a beautiful start to have this monster maple top turn out the same color as everything else. So we started reading and came across Vermont natural whey finishes !!! Hallelujah !!! I broke out the belt and orbital sanders and set up a sanding bunker/booth and ... hired a guy... hahah. 5 hours later our beautiful top was back! Now for The product review. I LOVE IT! No yellowing... hardly any smell.... perfect sheen (satin). I emailed the company after buying “floor finish” and “furniture finish” and one other ... they said to use “floor finish”. I guess it is harder than the others. Not sure. Negative - it doesn’t level out very good when doing something this big ... it starts setting up pretty fast. It worked beautifully in some window trim ... but on this 55 x96” beast ... I’d brush on fast all the way down (8’) and by the time I got back where I started my connecting stroke was messing with the previous line. I tried thin (which dried faster) and I tried thick (which dried more streaked). But you can wait a few hours and sand it down and try again. I actually liked the sanded (buffed) look as it took a bit of the sheen off and so after the third try I just sanded it and left it . It is a great finish and doesn’t yellow and wipes up like a dream. Its like having Formica counter tops again. I’ve even cut lightly on them with a knife ... not worried cuz it would be no big deal to fix it. Didn’t notice any scratch but again it was light cutting.

This stuff is amazing. I was looking for an alternative to Waterlox to seal our butcher block counter tops. I have never used Waterlox, but everything I read said it took 12 or so hours between coats and off gassed something terrible. Although it was a little pricey, I know there are other alternatives, but the lack of negative smell was a big deal for me as we have a little one with sensitive lungs. I decided to give Polywhey a try. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! Every. Penny. This stuff is amazeballs. I will use it on every wooden surface I finish for the rest of my life. I am not exaggerating. I had two counter tops that needed sealing. As they were going to go in my kitchen, I decided to be safe and double the number of suggested coats. So I did six coats on each side. The dry time is awesome, something like two hours between coats, so I was able to do both side of both counters in just a couple of days with NO (I repeat that, NO) off gassing. They have been installed for about six months now and I haven't had a single problem with them. They actually bring me so much happiness. Every time I wipe them down, I smile at how beautiful they are. Whole-heartedly, 100 percent recommend them.

Terrific product. Much lower toxic smells compared to traditional sealer. Would buy again!

Just what I needed and it came wrapped safely. This is a great product to use on furniture I am using in the kitchen since it is great protection against water and looks invisible.
