Well written one person perspective .
Author spoke harshly about Indian worshiping God's creation and not giving God our creator praise and glory for his gift's he gave us. Namely nature and life.

Must read
This book was written by the granddaugher of a medicine man. So many christians are looking for spiritual experiences ,that they get into occultic teachings labeled as christian. Hopely this will open people's eyes up to what the reality is behind the spiritual experiences that are counterfeit.but yet passed off as christian experiences. Just read the bible and rely on God's word, and the guidence of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Himself. It is all about Jesus and not mystical experiences

stop the confusion
The author points out that mixing cultural religion with the salvation Jesus Christ came to give, only leaves people in confusion. When Jesus claimed to be the only way to God (John 14:6) He wasn't blowing His own horn. He was just telling the truth. I'm very thankful that Nanci Des Gerlaise wrote this book to help her own people and anybody else that will listen.

Not Just About Native American Spirituality
Muddy Waters is part biography and part exposé of how occultic shamanistic and New Age practices are being combined with Christianity within Native Spirituality. Author Nanci Des Gerlaise is herself a Cree Native American whose father and grandfather were shaman, but as a Christian she knows well that faith in Jesus Christ and mystical shamanism cannot co-exist as truth and that many are being deceived. This book is not specifically about the injustices done to Native Americans, although the author (and the publisher) compassionately acknowledges those atrocities and understands how they have contributed to Native Americans not wanting to embrace what they perceive as the "white man's religion". The book instead focuses on the spiritual harm groups such as The Indigenous People's Movement are doing by claiming that the God of the Bible is the same Great Spirit of the Native Americans/First People and that practices and beliefs from both can co-exist as one religion. According to Des Gerlaise, nothing could be further from the truth. She says, "While those practicing Native Spirituality may believe they are practicing a completely unique form of spirituality, originating with them, they couldn't be further from the truth. Native Spirituality is just one part of a vast movement that is creating a paradigm shift in our present-day culture away from biblical Christianity and replacing it with an all-inclusive interspiritual global religion that relies heavily upon mystical practices. The results will create a "Christianity" that has no resemblance to biblical Christianity whatsoever. As part of this massive global shift, many Native American or First Nations tribes are exploring the renewal of their ancient spiritual traditions and reinstituting ancestral and mystical practices. Natives involving themselves in this pursuit see this as an opportunity to bring recognition to the forgotten and once persecuted Native American religion. They fail to realize that they are actually participating in a mass deception spreading throughout the world in the days prior to Christ's return."The book includes helpful comparison charts of the differences between what the Bible says versus Native Spirituality/shamanism beliefs. There are also descriptions of New Age/occultic elements in Native American beliefs such as dream catchers, sweat lodge ceremonies, pow-wow dancing and drumming, medicine bags, animal spirits/guides, spiritual bundles, sacred healing circles, and sacred pipe ceremonies.Chapter 9, "Can Cultures Be Redeemed?" was the most interesting to me as Des Gerlaise writes about groups such as The Indigenous People's Movement that teach that God is redeeming cultures such as Native Americans by providing ways to God outside of the Biblical gospel. As one leader of the movement stated, "Christians should cease representing Jesus as the Son of the foreign God of a foreign people.... We should instead introduce Jesus as the Son of their creator God." This isn't what scripture teaches as Des Gerlaise points out and what most Christians would recognize as false teaching.I appreciated the author's honesty in writing this book from the perspective of a Native American and as she shares about her upbringing as the daughter of a shaman and the terrifying manifestations she experienced as a result of the family's occultic connection to the spirit world. But she also shares the hope one has in Jesus Christ as their true Savior.Muddy Waters is not only about the unbiblical elements of Native Spirituality as its popularity grows. It is a wake-up call to Christians from every culture that deceptive teaching is infiltrating the church in general, and serves as a helpful resource for recognizing what is Biblical truth and what isn't.I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive reveiw required.

must read
Must read. Nancy discribes her way from a shamans daugther to a child of god. First Hand experiences what it is to live in the dark world of native american spirituality but also from a journey to the light. It's a testimony of the living LORD JESUS CHRIST.
