USE: Filter lasts up to one year or 160 refills (approx. 110 liters/30 gallons) under normal use conditions. This is equivalent to 2 months of use if using as your only source of water (based on the recommended daily water intake). Not for use with saltwater. While this filter can efficiently filter pond, lake, and river water, always use the cleanest, clearest water whenever possible. Dirty water may prematurely clog the filter and greatly reduce the filter life expectancy. When filter is not in regular use, remove filter from bottle, air dry, and store. Until first activated, filter can be stored indefinitely. CARE: The bottle can be washed in the top rack of a dishwasher or by hand. Do not freeze filter or place filter in dishwasher or microwave oven. Do not run hot water or carbonated liquid through filter. FILTER: In every reduction category, this filter exceeded all requirements. In fact, VOC's and Heavy Metal reductions were found BDL (below detectable limits), and microbiological reductions exceeded the requirement for purifiers. This filter is tested to the EPA Protocol for Microbiological Purifiers by the University of Arizona and by Spectrum Labs in accordance with ANSI/ NSF Protocol for Standard 42 and 53 Class I adapted for sports bottles.
