It's fascinating to hear the Fleetwoods' formula evolve over the course of their first four albums! And you'll find an unexpected diversity in their work, as well, as they experiment, weaving original material, contemporary hits by others, obscure songs and standards into a mostly spare, yet shimmering tapestry. Yes, the group's unique sound captures a specific historic era. More importantly, though, it encapsulates the transitions we all make in moving from teenage expectations to adult experiences. It's a collage of the gentle, jarring universal emotions that mold us and define our realities.To be honest, not every song works. There are several cuts that seem startling on an initial listening, due to surprising shifts in rhythm, vocal intensity and/or additional instrumentation, but by the second or third listening, the contrasts seem less harsh, and the differences are interesting side-trips. And while there are one or two cuts that resist likability, even on repeat exposure, those can be excused, considering the many delights you'll discover.One hopes that a second set, including the group's remaining four studio albums, plus the non-album a-sides and b-sides and an expanded version their "buried treasure" collection, is forthcoming, to document their full journey. And ideally, the non-album songs will be integrated chronologically throughout the set. (My one disappointment with the first comprehensive set is that it omits a single as well as several of their other early non-album tracks.)

If you remember the Fleetwoods then this is the CD for you. They have a soft melodic sound perfect for relaxing in the evening. There is only I song that seems out of place. It is # 2 on the first CD I just zip right over that one. I also found songs that I haven't heard before, and that is the fun of getting new CDs. Matter of fact I'm going to play it right now, much more fun than listening to the news!

This group had tremendous hits but also "cover" other songs on the CD as well. Their harmonizing was as good as it gets!

I recorded this album of 12 songs on my turntable and computer but when i found this with more songs by the group I had to buy it.

The Fleetwoods never go out of style. I put this on my player and I never get tired of the songs and their remarkable sound. Add that to my teenage memories and Wow! They are often called the forerunners of The Carpenters, and for good reason.

1950年代後半にワシントン州オリンピアで結成されたこのグループのメンバーは以下の三人。GARY TROXEL(1939年11月28日生まれ）GRETCHEN CHRISTOPHER(1940年2月29日生まれ）BARBARA ELLIS(1940年2月20日生まれ）男性のゲイリーがリード・ヴォーカルで、女性メンバーがコーラスという、ちょうどテディ・ベアーズと反対のメンバー構成。ただしソフィスティケイドされたサウンドは両者よく似ています。本CDのDISC-1,6曲目に収録されている「COME SOFTLY TO ME」で59年にワシントン州にあったDOLPHINレコードからデビュー、これがチャートでNO.1を獲得するという幸運なスタートを切りました。このドルフィンという会社は後にDOLTON(ドルトン）と改名していますが、同じワシントン州出身のインストルメンタル・グループ、ザ・ヴェンチャーズが活躍したレーベルとしても有名です。同じ59年には本CDのDISC-1,12曲目に収録されている「MR. BLUE」で2曲目のNO.1ヒットをかっ飛ばして一躍人気コーラス・グループとなっています。本CDは、そんな彼らが発表した初期のアルバム、4枚を2枚のCDに収録したものです。DISC-1 1~12 「MR. BLUE」（DOLTON BST-8001 1959年）DISC-1 13~24 「THE FLEETWOODS」（DOLTON BST-8002 1960年）DISC-2 1~12 「SOFTLY」（DOLTON BST-8005 1961年）DISC-2 13~24「DEEP IN DREAMS」（DOLTON BST-8007　1961年）彼らは当時、日本でも何枚かのシングル盤が発売されていますが、残念ながら日本では掠りもしていません。現在でもさはど知名度は高くありませんが、本国ではやはりけっこうな人気があるようです。アメ車のベンチ・シートで、当時恋人たちが肩を寄せ合ってラジオから流れてくる彼らの歌をBGMに、ロマンティックな会話をしていたのかな？こんな情景が浮かんで来るような甘酸っぱいサウンドが全編を覆っています。個人的に、若いころはあまりこの手のサウンドは好みませんでしたが、年をとって聴くといいものです。ただ、映画「アメリカン・グラフィティ」のサントラに収録されていたヒット曲、「(HE'S)THE GREAT IMPOSTER」（ジャッキー・デシャノン＝シャロン・シェリー作）も目当てで本CDを購入したのですが、本CDに収録のヴァージョンは1分32秒のヴァージョンで、シングル・ヒットしたヴァージョン（約2分5秒）よりだいぶ短いのです。もし、このヒットヴァージョンを所望で購入を検討されているかたはこの点、注意が必要です。この曲のヒット・ヴァージョンのほうは、「VERY BEST OF」というCDに収録されており、単に彼らのヒット曲を楽しみたい、というかたにはこちらのCDの方がおすすめできるかもしれません。

Somebody once asked how to be be able to define a "Rock & Roll" song & was subsequently advised that it was any music the kids wanted to listen to, Now that Rock & Roll has been "officially" classified, I do not think I can categorise this as anything other then Easy Listening music.It was in the R & R period this group was at it's biggest & today is still nice listening, it's not out of place but it is unfashionable.I like my music historically placed together & I like completeness. I sometimes have difficulty coming to terms with Jasmins' selection or more non selections on some of their other releases & at times find the pressings are not perfect tracking.Hard to fault this CD though, 4 complete former Lp's released on 1 disc, remastered with a small booklet, at least there is one.If we can have the remaining 4 Lp's on a later disc that would be nice.

these are a magic trio who are good at making the songs thhey sing even if you have heard them sung previously by someone else sound fresh and new.
