Each ceramic Plant Nanny Stake is specially designed to release just the right amount of moisture into the soil. You create the water reservoir by filling an empty wine, water or soda bottle with water and attaching the included, drip-free, threaded adaptor. As the soil begins to dry, the device slowly releases more water (through gravity/diffusion).

Wonderful product! So happy I found these!
I love these. They are a pretty, clear ball that is barely noticable inside the planter but when I do catch a glimpse of it, I love the look of it. It was easy to place the base into the plant dirt and then just fill the ball with water and carefully yet quickly drop it into the base. I have to refill it 2-3 times per week in each of the 3 plants I have these in. One is a small pot but still runs empty within 1-2 days. However, we live in the desert and it is very dry here and quite warm during the day - high 90's some days. I have not had these during our winter months yet to be able to determine if they need filling less in the colder months. The great thing is that they are distributing the perfect amount of water each plant needs. No more under or over watering for me. My plants look amazing!

Not convenient, but plants love it!
The Plant Nanny does a great job--but not for it's intended purpose. This device is NOT time-saving or more convenient, because the bulb needs to be refilled several times a week. At least that's the case in my dry New England house in the winter. However, I have discovered that my plants are much healthier because the water is delivered deep to the roots of the plants. My houseplants that don't have a Plant Nanny get dried out, no matter how often I water them. I think the issue is that when they are watered from the top, a lot of the water just runs off of the soil and doesn't get fully absorbed. If I keep the Plant Nanny full, those pots maintain the right amount of moisture. So, I wouldn't suggest this item if you're looking for a tool to take the place of watering your plants. It has no advantage for that chore. The Plant Nanny does do a great job keeping plants healthier.

The Plant Nanny saved my indoor tree!
Worth the money! I bought a fiddle-leaf fig tree for indoors, then brought it home and repotted it; apparently it "shocked" the tree into losing leaves daily until only a few remained. I think I also had been overwatering it despite the fact that when I checked it weekly, the soil felt dry; there was a lot of water (around a quart!) that had collected in the outer pot, and occasionally I would pull out little volunteer mushrooms (!) that were growing in the dirt. To save my tree, I read some online advice that included using a plant nanny. So I went for it! My tree started "drinking" the water from the plant nanny right away; soon tiny leaves appeared at the base of the original thin trunks of the trees, then they turned into branches, and now my tree is fully rehabbed. Yay plant nanny!

It works!!
This is a MUCH more satisfactory product than the hand blown, long stemmed, multi-colored water globe, and I will be ordering more Nanny's. The Plant Nanny globe has a large capacity and fits into a short, solid ceramic stake that slowly releases the water. I'm using it in outside pots, as well as inside. Directions are clear and simple, and best of all, the product is effective! Nice to find a product that does exactly what is advertised. In addition, the packaging is both artistic enough and sturdy enough to be suitable for gift-giving.

Don't waste your money on ANYTHING else!
You just cannot beat this product for watering your plants and keeping them alive. The best thing about this product is not having to worry about it getting plugged up with dirt, on the distribution end. And, that is what happens with the plain blown glass bulbs. You are always trying to ensure it is, or is not plugged up with dirt. Then when you re-adjust it, all the water goes gushing into your planter, all at once. With this product, your plant gets what it NEEDS. I read where some did not like it because of how fast the plant used the water. Fact is, the plant NEEDED the water. This is just a no brainer if you are concerned about making sure your plants gets water, while also ensuring it is not OVER watered. How many times have we all lost plants because we fed them too much water? I bought three of these initially and just ordered two more. My house is full of very expensive plants and trees that I have invested both time and money into. I finally have a watering system that is fool proof and sure. Don't waste any more money on those plain glass bulbs. This is an investment worth the cost. I promise you will wonder how you ever kept a plant alive without it.

Absolutely does the job.
This is the best non-mechanical watering system I've found. You will need to figure out for your soul and climate how long you can go without refilling the globe, but if your climate is on the hotter, drier side, just use two.

Plant Nanny
I purchased the Plant Nanny for a client that has orchids and enjoys them. With her busy schedule it is hard for her to keep them watered on a regular basis. She has had them 3 weeks now and her plants are doing great. The water bulb last one week with these plants. When I received them they were manufacture package quite tight and the shipping packing was equally tight making them all come with no damage. They are also attractive in the pots and now that I have her taken care of I plan to buy some for myself.

Works like a charm
I have a balcony in Austin Texas where the heat just beats down on my plants. This keeps them moist so I can travel for a few days and not worry about having burnt plants. Plants are still a little wilty during the day because of the heat but they perk up in the evening.
