The Rheumatoid Arthritis Cookbook: Anti-Inflammatory Recipes to Fight Flares and Fatigue

Not appropriate for RA patients
I bought this book for my mother, who has RA. Her hands do not function well due to the joint deformity that comes with RA, so chopping the long list of ingredients listed in the recipes is not an option for her. The author suggested that consumers purchase pre-chopped vegetables, then uses vegetables that would be hard to find and not likely pre-chopped. One recipe suggested that the cook cut off the tough outer part of asparagus stalks. Get real! Recipes ask for ingredients previously listed as foods to avoid! Eggs are listed as problematic, but at least 1/3 of the recipes call for them. I noticed that the author is a marathon runner, not an RA patient. I can't believe that RA patients are happily chopping away to make the recipes in this book which are too physically demanding for someone with the chronic fatigue caused by RA. I suppose that if a person could afford a personal shopper and cook that this could work for them, but it's not OK for someone trying to cook for themselves.

Great for RA sufferers
Great cookbook for RA disease. It is especially good since it focuses solely on RA and not other autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation. Not all anti-inflammatory remedies are suitable for each disease. It is not a one size fits all solution. This cookbook solely focuses on RA.

Don't Cook? That's OK. Read the Foreword!
I bought this book for my Mother as she is a poor eater which i think contributes to her arthritis and join pains. While i do not expect to start whipping up meals with these good-looking recipes, the information in the front of the back has been very valuable to help her understand why certain foods would help. What types of foods in general she should eat like Monosaturated fats... so easy for her to do since she likes avocados and nuts. She also has been told that turmeric is a good herb for inflammation and joint pain but she did not know how to incorporate that into foods. This book has recipes. I was really happy with the foreword information and plain-talk explanations that my mother can read and understand. For that the book has been invaluable.

The recipes in many cases have too many ingredients that aren't that easy to obtain
Not nearly what I expected it to be. The recipes in many cases have too many ingredients that aren't that easy to obtain. Easy is much better when you already have RA ---

Perfectly geared towards people with RA
This is a fantastic cook book for those with rheumatoid arthritis! I have heard over and over again that changing your diet can have beneficial effects on your RA, so I finally decided to try it. This book has helped me to get a lot of basic information right at my fingertips and given me plenty of recipes to start with. I'm now beginning to experiment on my own using the same basic ingredients and concepts that this book teaches. The author did a great job laying everything out very clearly and giving bulleted lists of what foods you should enjoy and what should be avoided. There are also great pictures of many of the dishes, as well as helpful tips for someone with a busy schedule. This has been well worth the money and has introduced me to some very tasty and different dishes!

Still need more
The book is great. The food not so great.I find it very hard to find things I can eat quickly and not give me pain. Breakfast is my hardest meal. I usually eat blueberries, walnuts, non-fat yogurt.I liked the book but it did not take care of most of my needs.

Five Stars
Great Recipes, but I would have liked to see more Vegan, or Vegetarian recipes.

Good information but difficult recipes.
Most of the recipes require unusual ingredients that I don't usually have on hand so It requires a trip to the grocery store before I can make them. There is a very informative section at the beginning regarding the effects of various foods on rheumatoid arthritis.

Did not really tell me anything. Sorry
It was a nice book, but most of the menus are too complicated to do. Some of the ingredients Ive never heard of. I just wanted simple food. But I suppose some people will like it, but sorry, not for me

Good recipes
Some good recipes. Not sure they make any actual difference to RA - just generally healthy meals.
