Saga Volume 10

A Story About Loss
Fiona Staples & Brian K. Vaughan’s “Saga Volume Ten” collects issues 55-60 of “Saga” illustrated by Staples and written by Vaughan. This was the first volume after the series went on hiatus after issue 54 in 2018. The story picks up six years after the events of the previous volume, in which Ianthe killed Doff and The Will killed Prince Robot IV. In the ensuing fight, The Will and Marko ended up on Ianthe’s ship as it started entering space. While onboard, The Will killed Marko. Alana and Hazel, Petrichor, Ghüs, and Upsher remained behind on the abandoned amusement park planet without knowing the full import of what happened. All these years later, Alana is raising Hazel and Squire on the run, selling black-market goods with her business partner Bombazine to make a living and stay off the grid. Meanwhile, The Will has earned his way back into the good graces of his guild. While on a job, Alana and her family are intercepted by pirates. They offer her the chance to do a job for them in exchange for an official busker’s pass. Alana goes alone, leaving Bombazine to watch the kids, who are entranced by the band they find aboard the ship. Elsewhere, the Will was sent to offer Marko’s head to the Robot Kingdom as part of the ongoing entrenched war involving Landfall, Wreath, and the Kingdom. This volume deals with loss while only rarely talking about loss and not fully acknowledging its emotional component until the end. In a way, it’s about trying to move past pain and soldier on even though it lingers in the background of everything.

Masterpiece!
Both Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples are geniuses! I love how easily and in a very dynamic way the story evolves with unexpected twists and dialogues which carry the readers from a scene in an ordinary everyday event to a child's unique way of thinking and questioning life, and then to a political philosophical thought, which is followed by an erotic or a violent scene and ends with a fast paced action in different planets and surrounded with various species of creatures, depicted by such impressive & immersive art always! Saga series are such page turners, that you can easily read all in one go but I always try to take it slow and really enjoy the emotions and thoughts which are provoked and tickled in each chapter. Brilliant! My favorite comic series definitely.

Brian Vaughan is such a good storyteller
The little girl is growing up. But without her daddy. Her mom is figuring out how to have a “normal” life. Yet others still consider them to be an abomination. How long can they stay under cover? Stay tuned.

pretty okay
it's been a while since i've read saga. i'll need to skim through it again to remind myself of things. aside from the need of every white person needing to reference woke and trigger in an unoriginal way at some point in their work or life, it's enjoyable. i just personally don't enjoy dried up topics that bring you so easily out of the moment, but i can hope it was done ironically. art is still top notch and it's honestly what brought me back, will keep bringing me back. kudos

Weak entry
Ignoring some cringe worthy dialogue, i am not sure where this story is headed. Some new characters just tossed in for good measure. Art is still amazing if you want more of that.

I’m super invested so this was expected to be good
Another essential purchase in the Saga story. A great story and amazing artwork! If you have read the rest you will already have this in your basket, enjoy!

Still great but not as great as what came before
This may well be down to the atypically long break between volumes (which I’m not begrudging anybody!) but while this was still clearly SAGA, I felt like that special extra spark that makes me love the series as much as I do was somehow missing, with the newly introduced characters and the obligatory changes to the status quo feeling less of consequence than usual.Or this might just have been setting pieces so the volumes to come can blow everybody away again.I’ll be there to find out.

The comic content is great, got damaged on delivery
Love the series, so was disappointed to see that the delivery was handled so poorly. Would have loved a better condition for the book.

The Return of a Friend.
It has been years since the last volume was Volume of Saga was publish. And I used to read this religiously. And then it stopped. It was gone.I understand that Fiona and Brian may have needed a break, though the cliff hanger ending is not one I easily lived with. I needed to know what happend next. Then the months of waiting turned to years. I would occasionally look for information about Saga's return. Though my quest would always feel fruitless. Then I heard the series was coming back. And as much as I had been charmed by the series before, I had stopped my decades long habbit of reading comics. But the cliffhanger. I needed to know. So i preordered and waited. I skipped the reviews of the monthly and waited for the book to be delivered. And today I found the book in my hands. I opened the first page.Saw Hazel and was charmed all over again.I read the book in one sitting. I felt the twists and turns. Admired the art and imagination on the page. Now I have another cliffhanger to wait with.Love this title.
