Firstly, I would like to make it clear that I am a complete novice with all things diy, and I'm also pretty useless at it too, something usually always goes wrong! As the flap broke on my letterbox, I needed to find a suitable replacement as fast as possible, without it breaking the bank. I firstly measured the length, width and depth of what was already in place, before searching. I found this one, which looked fine online and the price was excellent too. Great that there was quite a choice of colours available too. One thing to note however, probably just me being daft, but I chose the polished silver version, mostly based on it's appearance, as pictured online here. The picture makes it look as if the polished silver flap is mounted on a white background! So as my front door is a white upvc door, I'm thinking, perfect! My new letterbox arrived the following morning, excellent! However, it's actually entirely polished silver, definitely no white surround! A little disappointing, but at this price point and the fact of needing to replace it asap, I kept it. Make sure, before fitting, that you have the waterproof membrane supplied, on the outside (exterior) section of this letterbox, when mine arrived, it was slipped onto the section that goes inside (interior)! It's a very straight forward procedure, basically just a Philips screwdriver and a spare pair of hands, is all that's required. (I think you could manage it by yourself, but I found it a little tricky, so have someone else on hand who can hold the flaps open, while you deal with the fixings). Do be careful when threading the supplied bolts, make sure you keep both sides of the letterbox level and aligned, and only lightly tighten each of the two bolts, switching between each one until you cannot continue by hand, then fully tighten with your screwdriver. It looks great once fitted, but one thing I have noticed is that the flaps on both sides, do not fully close, which does seem a little odd to me, I mean neither sits totally flush inside the surround! It's nothing drastic and is not affecting the operation of the letterbox at all, just would have looked perfect if they fully closed/sat flush inside the surround, it's for these couple of reasons why I have given this a four star review, rather than five!
