And it was Beautiful: Leeds United in the Era of Marcelo Bielsa

Great Read
I wish the author had written the book in chronological order for ease of reading. It does flip round. Apart from that it is a wonderful insight into the club

Even if you don't love Leeds !
This is a great read for the football man in general regardless of club affiliation. A story told with wonderful insight but speaking as one who regarded the author as an excellent and insightful writer anyway, it's the least I would expect from Phil Hay.

Interesting but Poor Structure
The content is interesting for fans of Leeds and Bielsa but I found the narrative was spoilt by poor structure. The story moved between past and present, and meandered off at tangents regularly with some elements repeated. Hay mentions the challenges of time needed to complete the project and that becomes apparent through the book. It feels like it was written in multiple snatched lunch breaks, and would have benefited from a couple of full read-throughs and a ruthless edit. For me, there are better researched and more informative books on Bielsa but Leeds fans will no doubt lap this up. It's okay but should have been brilliant given the subject and access the author had.

Good read
A good read but most of it was what I already knew. It was more about Leeds United than Marcelo Bielsa.

An important snapshot of history in the making
Having read as much as there probably is to read on Bielsa (in English language) - including every word written and spoken by the brilliant Phil Hay - I was not expecting any major new revelations. Spoiler, there aren’t many for those who know the story well. What this is, is a superbly well written snapshot and summary of a remarkable man and 36 months in the history of Leeds United. Something that is so beautiful that it deserves documenting to this quality. It carefully brings together the story of our 1st season back in the Premier League after a 16 year hiatus, with thematic chapters that provide the context and depth needed to explain the enigma of the two protagonists. For Leeds fans this is the type of book you’ll happily reread every few years to help illicit the emotions you felt living through it. For those new to Bielsa you will surely fall in love with him just as Leeds fans have.

Memorable and interesting read
So far I think this is the best book, written about Bielsa and his relationship with Leeds United. It reveals the depth of his knowledge about football and systems played by various team and how he nurtures talent. Who would have foreseen Kalvin Phillips being one of the mainstays of the England team three seasons agoor how Stuart Dallas could play in so many positions , Bielsa has made them the players they are. I for one am enjoying the experience of watching Leeds play under his coaching, to me he's been the best thing that has happened to this club in the last 20 years. Credit must go to Andreas and Victor for securing his services. I fully recommend this book.
