Finally, sound advice backed by science
I’m a closet nutritionist. I love reading all the new studies about food, exercise, autophagy, and intermittent fasting and more. This book really pulled it all together. I’ve been doing keto for the last two years, lost over 30 pounds, but more importantly feel healthier And more alert and aware. I went on a one-month vacation, and stepped off of my low carbohydrate focus, and really felt it. Outside of gaining 5 pounds, a cloudy mind and not the same amount of energy came back. I’m now back on my low carbohydrate I fat diet dropped 5 pounds, and feeling better again. Thank you Dr. Pearlmutter, this book came to me just at the right time. It is too bad that the rest of the country can’t see what the food industry is doing to us. I only hope and more alert and aware. Boost Brain Performance
I liked a low carb diet from the perspective of a neurologist. My new job colored how I reacted to this book. It scared me.I saw many people as a maintenance many people in their 40s and 50s who were overweight, were breathing hard at the easiest of task and were slow and foggy mentally. They were going to be a heath disaster in old age. Was I going to be like them? Who was going to take care of these people? They obviously were obese, prediabetic at best, and were on their way to heart disease. Now, this author said they were headed for alzhiemer's disease and dementia?I had just lost 50 lbs cutting sugar, cutting junk food and fasting for days at a time, but my blood pressure and blood sugar were no where near normal and my family tree was littered with Alzheimer's and dementia. Further I had to work a labor intensive job to keep my brain from being foggy. I was scared.I hope this diet works. Hard labor keeps the brain fog away for now.One tip: Fasting helps any diet with weight loss. It is simple, effective and not difficult.

Probably worth it
I have to say that after reading other books by Dr Perlmutter, I had quite high hopes for this one. I did enjoy it, and there was certainly new information in it. Diet-wise, he keeps approaching the low-carb regime, more so than in the previous books; he also gives an interesting range of supplements (even though I still have trouble finding what he means with coffee berry extract). It was the push I needed to take my microbiome a bit more seriously, and I don't know whether it's for real or the placebo effect of the overpriced probiotic pills (not the ones from his website), but two months down the road I feel pretty good in that respect, with at least my IBS feeling under control. What I didn't like - even after having read his previous work, it felt like the book was trying to do too much. It spends a lot of space describing anecdotal evidence of some miraculous cures of patients with neurological disorders, trying to establish the credibility of the approach - and I have to admit skipping most of that part. But then, it tries to give recommendations for dieting, supplements, exercising and cooking recipes (the latter being another part I skipped). And that do-it-all part felt mildly rushed. Another minor disappointment was the cursory coverage of food sources of probiotics.Overall, it builds nicely on a wider literature of low-carb diet variants, and I did find the information on supplements reasonably well set up - that's mainly the part that I would recommend this book for. Well worth both the money and the time I spent reading it.

I don’t eat many grains anymore.
This book is interesting! After reading it, I felt terrified to eat another grain… But of course I do once in a while anyway. :-)I think it is important to know what one consumes on a daily basis and how it affects one’s health.

One of the best books I have ever read
One of the best books I have ever read. I have lost 8 lbs in 14 days on the no glutten, no sugar, smart fats, lo-carb plan, all organic, grass fed food items. I can't believe it - it only took 1 week to take away all cravings for wheat items (pretzels for me) and sugar. Sugar is in so many foods. Now I clearly see that after years of failing dieting, this nutrition plan and decontaination of my household and beauty items, is the only way to live healthy. I mean who wants to wear petroleum made products on their face and hands or in the containers where they put food? I used to gain weight counting points on Weight Watchers because they do not teach you healthy smart eating selections. and I craved food all day long. Not anymore. I am satisfied with this new way of eating. I also decontamined my house (better filters, threw out all plastic containers and chemical cleaners, black covered pots and pans). Dr Perlmutter has changed my mind-set on healthy living. THANK YOU DR PERMUTTER. Forever grateful.
