Excellent reference for the M23
I recently purchased the re-released Tamiya McLaren M23 and was looking for some good basic reference material. Although (as stated) this book covers the evolution of the M23 over several years I found it adequate for my general purposes and very informative on the development of F1 cars during the 70's. I am at the infancy of my interest in Formula One and after seeing Rush in theaters last year this book lets you see not only pics from the filming of the movie but gives you a look into the past with the archival photos of James Hunt and the other drivers.

Quite the unexpected surprise!
I had not even heard that Haynes was doing books like this and the Lotus 72 manual, I just bought it on a whim. Absolutely entertaining and very informative! And no, this book was certainly not written expecting to be used as a shop manual for a car of which only 13 copies or so were made, it is an excellent history of the car and the era. I am so glad I bought this!

This is not your father's Owner's Workshop Manual
I would think that Haynes workshop manuals are known worldwide to the do it yourself auto repairman. Always with photos, drawings and detailed explanations on how to take vehicles apart, fix them and put them back together. If that is what you are looking for in this book, you will be very much disappointed and I am very surprised that this book is sub-titled as an "Owner's Workshop Manual"!However, all is not lost. What this book is, is a nice little history of the McLaren M23 Grand Prix car. There is good historical information including views from former drivers, mechanics and current owners, chassis history and race results. There are enough pictures to make it useful to the F1 modeler, although, I was hoping (as the sub-title suggests) for more detailed photos and drawings.Overall, I don't think one would go wrong buying this book. I like it and it is a nice addition to my library. The only problem that I have is in the way the book is misrepresented as a "Haynes...Owner's Workshop Manual".

Not so much a workshop manual as a technical history
As the owner of a contemporary F1 car, I found the photos of the construction (and repair) of the M23 educational and a great satisfaction to curiosity. More for the technical historian than the vintage racing mechanic, but well done nonetheless.

Inside the McLaren M23
This is more of a history with technical details, so if you want to know about the classic F1 cars under the M23 designation, this is a fun addition to a book collection on F1 ... might be picking up some of the others because it is a lighter look than most at a broad range specifically on this significant car.

Very good book for those how wants to know more about the very first McLaren world champion car. Very good amount of reference pictures for scale model car builders.

The title "Owners workshop manual" is a bit misleading. I expected more of the technical details of the car rather than the story of the M23..

McLaren M23
really not a workshop manual based on others I have seen over the years. their 1978 Porsche 911 manual which I own is a workshop manual.

Le buste vanno infilate, non spinte
Libro interessantissimo, ma il corriere non dovrebbe fare prove di resistenza con la busta di cartone e la buca delle lettere, larga abbastanza per evitare di danneggiare i libri.

Fasinating and Informative
Brilliant insight into an era of real racing. An interesting read for the technically minded whilst written in laymans language, I found it fasinating as this was the dominant racing car during my school boy days and now I can see how it all worked. The background info on the designers, mechanics and drivers was also great.
