Amazing quality book as always! Bought as a gift but already have one of these too! Great addition to bookshelf and one our friend loved receiving as a gift!

First things first: This is NOT a detailed travel guide. It is an introduction to what the editors believe are the "10 best countries, 10 best regions, 10 best cities, and 10 best values" in travel for 2019. It serves as a guide to open up deeper exploration. I believe it succeeds beautifully in this respect.I've only recently started traveling more -- 3-4 times a year -- trying to whittle down my list of "places I must visit before I die." I'm using this book (and I presume future editions that will follow) to start my more detailed research on specific areas that might be on the agenda for this year's travel plans.The book gives just enough information to give you an idea as to WHY it was selected on the relevant "10 best ... " list. If I find a place interesting, I start doing more research on that place to see 1) how to get there 2) where I might stay 3) what sights I might want to examine while there. But this book opens the door for me and gets me interested.It's also a great "armchair traveler" book for those that can't make the actual trips to places of interest. Again, there's enough info to give you an idea of why the editors considered a particular place "special" enough to include, and from there, you can pursue more detailed study.I like this book a lot -- and will continue to use it and any subsequent editions to help shape my future travels. I've used Lonely Planet travel guides for years -- this is a nice addition to the library. Solid 5 stars from me.
