My son size like 5 what size fit best for him?

They seem to fit true to size. My daughter wears a 7.5. I ordered a 7.5-8.5 and they fit perfectly. Not sure they have the room to last through to an 8.5, but we will see!

Are these machine washable? Do they wash well in the washer?

Yes, these are great purchase.. wash my son after every swim n still holding up since summer

Do these get sand in them? Looking for something to help with sand sensory issues.

Yes and no. When in the waves at the shore sand and small shells can get in. My kids have come back and we’ve had to rinse them out. They protect well and you don’t feel the sand under your feet like you do with bare feet. My kids have done much better at the beach wearing them than without. However if some of the sand sensory is with getting it in shoes, these might not be the best.
