Does it have any type of brake on it to hold it in place?

Where can I get an I-beam that will work with this?

The trolley is adjustable and can fit commercially available "I" beams from 2" to 4" wide as long as the center portion of the beam is 3" or greater. Any business that sells steel "I" beams can supply the beams.
