Beautiful Choice for Knitter/Crocheter
Thank goodness there are still small family owned businesses like Hagestad, that take pride in their work and produce beauty and quality. This yarn bowl is a perfect and beautiful example. It's a joy to simply hold in your hands. It is heavy enough to sit solidly wherever it is set, and oh, so smooth to the touch. It is cut and polished to take full advantage of the gorgeous grain of the wood. The holes and yarn feed are perfectly smooth, so no snags in the fiber as you work. This is an item that the quote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever.", was most assuredly describing. As I write this, we are monitoring the track of storm "Irma" and should I have to suddenly leave my home you can bet this yarn bowl will be going with me!!The bowl is well worth the price and being 8" diameter, it easily holds 2 or more balls of worsted weight yarn. With lighter weight yarn I think 3-4 balls would fit well doing color work like Fair Isle. There is simply nothing negative to say about it.

Beautiful, high quality piece of work
I have purchased both the 8" and 7" size of this bowl. Please keep in mind that the sizes refer to the measurement of the whole product, not the inner cavity. You can see from my photos the measurements of the interior space, and also see how the same brand-new 7.1 oz / 200g ball of yarn fits in each bowl. Both are gorgeous. Very smooth surfaces, beautiful grain in the wood, heavy enough to stay put and not slide around when you tug your yarn. Some people have mentioned an odor. There's a scent, but I think it's pretty much what you'd expect to have on a brand-new varnished piece of woodwork. I personally didn't find the smell was noticeable unless I stuck my nose right in the bowl, and then it faded away completely after sitting out for a while. I highly recommend these bowls, even though there are cheaper ones all over Amazon. You'll see when you hold it in your hands that you've got a substantial, high-quality work of art in front of you. For a fine piece of handmade woodworking, I think the price is totally fair.

Defective and Unuseable!
I am so disappointed and angry that I could cry! I am an older, retired widow on a fixed income, so I thought hard before buying this expensive yarn bowl ($44.95)! I got it yesterday and it is beautiful, but absolutely defective. There is a big raised area in the bottom of the bowl that has a sharp edge on it, that would snag anything that you put in the bowl. I used a piece of sewing thread to test it, and it snagged it right away. The defect is obvious to the eye and if you touch it, you know it is bad. How this company could have sent out this bowl without knowing that it cannot be used just boggles my mind. It doesn't even take big Quality Control to know this is bad. I'm returning it but haven't decided if I want to try another one or not. The 2 hooks are nice but odd sizes; one is just a bit larger than a size K (which should be 6.5 mm) and the other just a bit smaller than a K. The bag is okay - just a cheap polyester bag. I give this bowl 1 star for being very pretty and sturdy (it's nice and heavy), but it is certainly without value nor giftable.

Wonderful bowl, but not so great "accessories"
I love, absolutely love the yarn bowl...it's substantial (really impossible to tip over), nicely finished (even the inside of the scroll) and just as large as the dimensions on the website. However, the bag is stiff, and seems moderately scratchy on the inside unfinished seams...I'd be afraid to actually put anything soft, like yarn inside. And, the included crochet hooks are most definitely NOT a standard US size...and probably be only useful for making non-sized items such as baby blankets, afghans, or potholders.

Beautiful and useful yarn bowl
I've recently picked crochet back up, and decided to give a yarn bowl a try... especially since I have young cats in the house. This one seemed to be a decent value for the money, and a good size since I am currently working with rather large skeins of yarn that I wind into balls.Y'all... I didn't know what I was missing out on not having a yarn bowl before now. And this one is great! Nice, smooth wood, attractive, nice weight, no rough areas to snag the yarn. Definitely worth the price. Now I can sit and crochet with cats asleep in my lap and not worry about the ball of yarn flopping all over the place and attracting unwanted feline attention.I haven't tried the hooks yet, but they are really pretty and look decently made.

Great idea, why didn’t I think of it?
Where has this been all my knitting life? I’ve knitted off and on since the early 1970’s and this is ingenious. I don’t chase yarn balls anymore. My center pull balls stay neatly in the lovely wooden bowl and I have minimal tangling doing color work. If you use the big worsted weight acrylic yarn skeins, you’ll need something larger but I generally knit sock weight yarns and the bowl is great for that. The craftsmanship is good but not great. The bowl arrived with a couple of rough spots but a little light sanding with fine sandpaper did the trick. The drawstring bag is okay but I might use it as a template for something a little taller and more my style.

Pretty and Solid
I've been wanting a yarn bowl for a while now and finally bought one. This one is an awesome deal. The bowl is smooth and has two holes for yarn and one swirly cut out. It is SOLID! Literally a solid 2 lbs in fact! The finish is smooth and I've had no problems using it to pull yarn though. It came with a velvet drawstring bag, and two fancy hooks in the Susan Bates style. I use Clover hooks so I don't expect to use them but they are very pretty. I am so happy to finally have an easy way to keep my yarn from rolling around on the floor. This would be lovely as a gift to someone who knits or crochets.

GORGEOUS AND FUNCTIONAL
Very high quality, beautiful color and heavy weight bowl that holds even the largest of yarn balls without the yarn popping out and rolling across the floor. I love the way it looks, as I often have my yarn "out" and in the middle of whatever project is "on" at the moment. I bought this yarn bowl because of its size. It just happens to have two hole in the side that are meant to hold knitting needles. My tool of choice is a CROCHET HOOK, however, so I have no use for the smallish holes but, to me, the holes have just become part of the artistic design of the thing. I am so thrilled with this item, I MAY buy another one, except that it is so spendy.
