Wide Mouth Cantene

I would return this but didn't get back from our backpack trip until the day after the return item window closed.I gave it 2 stars since before it started leaking I really liked it, but after the leak who wants water leaking over your backpack! Also, since I am not the only report of a leak from this area it seems to be a design flaw/weakness. I do not recommend this product.Update: I contacted Nalgene about warranty replacement. I just got an email confirming they are sending me a replacement. It will be interesting to see how well the replacement holds up.

For holding water on a hike, I use Platypus bottles. They're as light as can be, and when empty they fold down to almost nothing. This Nalgene bottle can't do that because of the wide lid, but the wide lid is why I bought it. It's the bottle I use to scoop up water from streams while backpacking. I put a piece of cheesecloth over the mouth and can fill the bottle by drawing it through even a shallow stream. That can't be done with the small-mouthed Platypus bottles. If I'm hiking where I expect to find plenty of water deeper than, say, a foot, I leave the Nalgene behind and just take the Platypus bottles, which can be filled if held vertically in the water.

Good quality, but didn’t meet our purposes. We hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2018. We realized quickly on a training hike it was not going to work for us. It is not free standing and there are no measurements. It was too much of a hassle trying to balance it and measure water for cooking dehydrated meals. Not the product’s fault. It is lighter weight than a nalgene or Gatorade bottle and has a wide opening for steripen. While on trail we switched to the one liter Katadyn be free. It was by far the easiest and lightest filter available for our needs.

I love these bottles! They fold flat and roll up for storage in backpack or camping gear. The bottom has an accordion fold that opens up when you fill the bottle, allowing it to stand up securely. They have a wide mouth lid that screws off, allowing it to be washed thoroughly and totally dried before storage. It has a sippy top that makes it easy to drink on the trail without messing with a lid or spilling water, and the loop makes it easy to attach the bottle to your pack. They are reasonably priced and made from thick, durable material.And most of all, I like that these bottles are USA made by Nalgene - meaning they are BPA free and made to last. We have six of them in different sizes, and have enjoyed using all of them.

If I didn't love Platypus Soft Bottles so much, I would probably love this one. This bottle is great because the wide mouth allows you to place ice in it, refill it with water at amusement parks and is very easy to clean with a brush. My purpose in getting soft bottles, though is to have a foldable bottle I can stow away when we are done drinking the water, an impossibility with our stainless steel water bottles. The wide mouth bottle, in spite of its benefits, makes it difficult to compactly fold this bottle after use. I find myself exercising extra care not to break the wide mouth when folding and storing it. We are keeping this bottle for all its benefit. But our go to bottles will continue to be the compact Platypus Soft Bottle.

I have had all kinds of water bottles, folding and regular, insulated, metal, plastic, with straws and without, and this is the most convenient so far. it's light and small when folded, I can put a rubberband on it to keep it compact in my purse or gym bag, it takes the ice cubes from the frig dispenser as fast as they fall in, and really dries out inside which makes me feel better about how clean it gets. I hung a carabiner clip on it and it hangs off the kids backpacks, and stands comfortably on their desks at school. when I drink one-handed at the gym I need the splashguard to keep the ice from hitting me, but that was inexpensive and well worth it.

I've had my current bottle since 2014. I take it with me to reduce the weight/bulk of things I'm carrying when traveling and it's served me well. It's held up well to freezing, but didn't like being clipped on to my tube for lazy river floating, so they are sending me a replacement since it started leaking at the bottom seam.

I bought this to take to an archeological dig, a place where fresh water is limited. For the first few weeks this was an awesome bottle. The end of the sixth week the plastic that is the bottom of the bottle separated and the bottle began to leak. The plastic ply appears to have separated since there are no punctures in the plastic which is something that could occur on this type of bottle. I am giving it 2 stars because it worked great for almost 6 weeks but now it is just going in the recycle bin.I suggest that if you want a water bottle that is lightweight, look elsewhere as this could leave you thirsty.

When your camping, there is nothing worse than waking up in the night, having to get out of your tent and go for a pee. This solves that problem. Also packs down when not in use. Almost tempted to put one by my bedside.. but not sure thats a socially acceptable thing to do.

This is a brilliant addition to my water bottle collection . Over a litre of volume and the more you drink the more compact it can become . I purchased this for my son for his DofE trips and use it with a source convertube which works really welll. It is very robust and has taken some knocks no problem . I have been trying to find some with the normal top but no luck so far. Vendor was great and delivered very quickly and before time. I would definetly recommend these bottles ( I bought the 32oz / 1.1 litre ).

Split at the top seal after about 2 weeks of fairly consistent use. Wouldn't buy again. Disappointing from Nalgene.

I do a lot of travelling and hate lugging around empty bottles when I don't need to. I keep this bottle in my travel bag, and it takes up hardly any space. It is always ready when I need it, and I have put a sip adapter in it as the bottle's opening is the standard "wide mouth" size.I like this so much I have bought a larger one for my partner.

I use mine too pee in , it saves getting out of a nice warm tent , I realise it has far more uses of which it is probably brilliant but I use it to pee in.
