Great upgrade for the price
I had started working from home and needed a large monitor since I remote into other computers all day. The ViewSonic 27" monitor is great for that. I am able to see the remote desktops and still have room to spare. The monitor is crisp and clear. It is very bright. I had to turn the brightness down when I first set it up. The construction is good.My only complaints (and they are minor) would be the base doesn't adjust and the sound quality of the speakers. I knew that when I bought it the base wouldn't adjust, I wish it did to give a better viewing angle. However, the screen is excellent and can be tilted so that isn't a real problem. The sound is just not very full. It works ok if you just need something and don't want to have speakers on the desk. If I was going to listen to music through them I would upgrade, For working and only hearing the occasional dings and beep, it works fine. It is loud enough but the sound quality is poor. For the cost and the performance this is a great buy. Just know going in that you won't probably want the speakers for music or serious gaming.

Big screen, Great Price
I've had this monitor for exactly one week now. I bought it to use in addition to my 15" MacBook Pro for working at home. Also, I wanted something relatively inexpensive, thinking that I may make a significant upgrade in a year (Thunderbolt?) and wanted to save my pennies until the Retina display is available on large screens. I reasoned that this will make a good TV attached to a Mac Mini in the future when I'm ready to make the switch, where the resolution won't be such an issue when you're watching from several feet away.Positives:My first impressions are that is it very bright, nice and big, great for video (and I suppose video games), and great for reading text because text is 'bigger' at the given resolution/27" screen-size combination.Negatives:The text seems 'blurry' relative to my 2010 MacBook Pro (non-Retina) because the pixels are essentially stretched-out at the same number of pixels per screen-width, but I've gotten used to that after a while. Also, I really needed to turn down the brightness because as a writer/researcher/coder I spend most of my time reading black text on white backgrounds. Mostly, I would recommend not worrying about brightness issues when choosing a monitor as it seems that they're generally brighter than they need to be for people who sit roughly 2 feet away from the screen. My brightness setting is currently set at 10 (out of 100) and setting it even to zero doesn't make the screen go black, so you don't really have full control over the brightness range. (Maybe you need another app like Shades for the Mac to get full control over the brightness from 0 to 100%.) Setting the "Eco Setting" to "conserve" seems to help lower the brightness a few extra notches.Height Control:Another slight negative is the lack of height control. I knew this going in, but the monitor is even shorter than I expected. The bottom of the frame is 1 7/8" off the desktop and the bottom of the screen area is 3 7/8" off the desktop. I managed to adjust this by sitting the stand on a thick book for now.Cables:My monitor did not come with an HDMI cable. It comes with DVI, VGA, and sound cables, but no HDMI cable even though I thought previously the various reviews/website specs said all of the cables were included. Regardless, I would've needed to get an adapter of some kind for the MacBook Pro since it only has a Mini DisplayPort, so I'm using the VGA/Mini-DisplayPort adapter with the VGA cable.Sound:The SRS sound driver works as a plug-in on iTunes, and it drops the sound between songs. This happens even when I have another set of speakers playing over my Airport Express. The song will drop on the computer/monitor but not on the speakers that are playing in the living room, so it's clearly an issue with the monitor sound driver software.Price:Another gripe: I paid $279 a week ago and now it's at $249, so this monitor seems to be losing its value pretty quickly. Maybe this just has to do with the holiday sale season; however, that's probably something to keep in mind while you are shopping for a monitor.

Excellent quality and Excellent purchase!
I purchased this LCD in Feb. of 2013 to go with a new computer build. It's connected via HDMI on a GTX 650 video card. The factors I used when deciding on this LCD were: Brand (quality), Price for LCD size, Fast response time (3ms), which is excellent for clarity, and a very good contrast ratio. unfortunately the first LCD came with a dead pixel. I was not happy about that, but I decided to let Amazon replace it since I have always considered ViewSonic to be a reliable and quality brand (Back in the CRT days). And for the price, I had to give it a second chance, especially since we're talking about a 27" LCD. Back in the late 90's and early 2k, even the 19 to 24" LCDs cost an arm and a leg. Most youngsters probably don't realize how great they have it now.A year and a half later, the screen is still beautiful and crisp. I am not a gamer, but I do work with Adobe Lightroom on occasion, and I am pleased with out-of-the-box calibration, as my prints look just as nice as what I see on the screen. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Nice Monitor - Won't get much better for under $1,000
-Fonts are good as long as you don't shrink the image very much-Good color and brightness-I like the extra real estate on this monitor-Off axis viewing is not good but I never use it off axis so that's not a factor for meI tried the ViewSonic 32" LED monitor first. The picture on the 32" monitor was totally unacceptable. It had unacceptable pixelization and fonts were very shadowy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009LJM68U/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00. I sent it back and bought this one. I'm pretty happy with this monitor. This monitor displays fonts MUCH better. All of that said, once you get to 1920x1080 resolution, going with a larger monitor doesn't really do anything other than make fonts larger. I can't really fit much more on this monitor than I can on my smaller monitor since the resolution is close to the same. I hope the 2000+ resolution monitors come down under $500. You really need more pixels like that to take good advantage of the larger monitor area. This monitor yields about 80 pixels/inch. 100 pixels per inch would be noticeably better. The 32" monitor had about 60 pixels/inch which was very unacceptable.
