Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association

This version is outdated, but I still used this book to get through graduate school, it helped me tremendously and the concepts in this STILL helped me write my Master's thesis. Thus, even though this book is outdated and there are newer and updated versions of this same book, I'm just saying that this is still an ok book too. And by the time someone reads this, this book might be cheaper than the newer versions. Thus, costs might be a reason to buy this book and maybe the things that are not covered in this book, could be found on the web to make up for what's missing.

I purchased this book because it is a requirement for my program at school. I purchased the spiral bound copy because I'll be using it often and wanted something that I can keep open on the page that I'm using. I'm glad that I did. Amazon delivered as promised in time for my first class, however the first copy I received had many of its pages out of order, and I had to wait for a replacement copy. Now for the text itself, I find it inadequate, and I am glad that my college provided a class to supplement the text. It is not at all complete in its explanations and I made profuse notes in the margins with information gleaned from the class. Since the APA style writing is so much a part of my program, this book is very necessary yet challenging to me and I am finding it not to be very user friendly. Hopefully it will seem better as I become more proficient in the APA style of writing. But for now I have little option but to get used to it since this is the manual of the APA. They could have done a better job in putting it together.

I am a doctoral student and the standard we use to write our paper is APA 6th edition.The only problem is if you have purchased the book, its hard to maneuver.Our professor let us in on a secret.... purchase the 5th edition. It has a much betterindex, so you can look up things quickly. They also have better examples.There are only a few changes between 5th and 6th edition and you can find themout via the internet. Print a copy of those changes and stick it in the book.By getting refworks or endnote and APA 5th edition you will save SO much timein working on your reference and spend more time researching and writing.HAPPY WRITING!

Even allowed a download to be burned to CD. I don't think it still works. Otherwise I would give it a 5. Above perfect product, being made less perfect back down to a 5 for just the perfectness of the book. So I knock it down to 4. Don't take away something previously given. Download won't run with some newer hardware versions, and it is not that old. A new download should be allowed for previous purchasers, at least with a discount. On CD you can click look for, and have computer search what you are looking for. Makes use so much faster and easier, and being able to copy and paste format. Was a great great tool.

This manual is an EXCELLENT resource for APA style. I'm a grad student was having trouble with term papers and APA format. It seemed like every website I checked had a different rule. This manual is recent, up-to-date, easy to use and relatively easy to understand (as easy as understanding APA could be). The table of contents and index are both very helpful in navigating through the manual. I highly recommend this spiral bound version, as it is good for staying open where you need it, especially when your hands are busy doing other things (like typing away at term papers). It is also a good resource for journal article/technical writing in general. It would be nice if it came with external tabs (even internal ones would be great), but it's not too hard to add your own.

Excellent reference. Fairly easy to find information that I need (FAR better to find than in the Chicago Manual of Style). APA does a good job at organizing, explaining, and making the information accessible. Would definitely buy again. Also, kudos to APA for being customer-oriented, i.e., their online blog is so helpful and makes me feel good about purchasing (unlike Chicago that has nothing helpful, in my opinion, online for they ONLY want you to buy/subscribe to get the information).

This is one of my absolute least favorite topics - writing for academic journal publication. Lest I start a rant about the very premise of intellectual information-hoarding, here is the lowdown.The book is a big, floppy paperback, close to the measurements of a phone directory. It is sometimes hard to focus on the thinner fonts used in some of the sections, complicated by the late hours and crummy light many students will use it in. However, it is fairly quick to access those bits of publishing minutiae needed for one's term paper or article.That said, I would steer you to a regular style manual if possible, because this is geared for people who *must* adhere to the Psychology Association's demands. It's no good for regular writers who address wide audiences, as it has peculiarities unique to scholarly psychological article making.Also, get it used, because someone in the know keeps changing said minutiae, causing victims to rush to expensive retailers for the latest version. You may get by just fine with the pocket version ... but find out how strict your professor is!

I'm taking an advanced writing/ APA course that uses the APA workbook and training manual. That workbook was made to coincide with this Publication Manual. However, this book was not a required text, so I found it here on amazon and bought it to help me in this course as an extra study tool. I'm in the final week of this course, and I use this Manual ALL the time! The APA codes line up exactly with the workbook and training manual. It is packed FULL of APA rules you need to know in order to write term papers, research papers, and journal articles.

Excellent product!

I am over the moon with this book, not only has it helped me with my punctuation of psychological reports and essays but it has also shown me how to structure them. It is very handy and gives examples of how things should be laid out in any APA Formatted document. The ring-binded copy is welcomed as it made it easier for me to work through all of the different topics in the book, and to flick between A and B; as you may find yourself doing this quite a bit. However, the ringbinding could have been a little sturdier, it sometimes feels that some of the pages may come lose from the bindings, but this is an issue in any binding like this. Regardless, it is a vey nice book and well worth the money!It is worth considering this book over the newer addition, as I have had the newer one on loan from my Uni Library and it seems to simplify LOADS so its for those who already have an understanding of APA as it misses a lot out - whereas this is an ideal book for the first time student!

Daughter used it in school. Aced the course, so must have been good.

Needed it for school. Easy to follow format.
