Great even for commercial use!
I debated a long time before buying this due to the mixed reviews. I have an Etsy shop and was looking to add buttons to my product lineup. I couldn’t afford a big professional maker, but the cost for this wasn’t exactly a drop in the bucket either. When it arrived I was surprised at how heavy it was. It has some sturdy high quality metal. Assembly was easy with the Allen wrench it came with and the basic instructions. Making the actual buttons was where the reviews diverge and I think that is because it’s hard to visualize what exactly you need to do from the instructions. There are a few good YouTube videos that helped me with that. I recommend searching them up. They show you how to line the molds up properly for each step and that makes a big difference. Some of the tips I have: • Make sure that your mylar is not stuck together. They are sticky and if you have more than one you won’t get a clean button. • Use a glue stick to glue your image onto the metal. It prevents it from wiggling when you press. • Make sure your image and your button back are turned straight so that the pin will face up correctly when finished. • Hold the press down about 5 seconds for your second press. It makes sure the mylar has time to set into its shape. • Use the right paper. You don’t want a thick paper, but still want your images to look crisp. I bought a package of matte presentation paper here on Amazon and it has worked very well. The brand I bought was epson, but there are other brands that would work. • The circle cutter is garbage. Don’t expect to be able to use it. I purchased a large hole punch (also on Amazon) to make my circles. Make sure it cuts 1/4-1/2 inch bigger than your finished buttons. With the YouTube videos and my tips you should be able to make high quality buttons with no problems. Out of the hundred or so I’ve made so far I have only mis-punched maybe 5 buttons and those were where my tips come from. My press was also very loud initially, but a bit of WD-40 fixed it right up. Good luck, and get creative!

Excellent machine, fantastic customer service
I purchased this button maker about a year or so ago to make some buttons for giving away at conventions. It absolutely works fantastically and is excellent value. Honestly it came quickly and I'm super thrilled with it. Super easy to use, and has lasted very well. After about a year of using it the part that clamps down the button seemed to have come out of alignment and was loose. I'm a bit of a clumsy person and it had been dropped a couple of times too. The company responded immediately to my inquiry and sent me instructions on which connections to tighten. It took only a moment with an allen key applied tot he correct spot to solve my issue. I also had run out of the button supplies that came with it. I couldn't find the same button backs so searched out alternatives. I found a good deal on supplies with metal button backs that were on sale so bought them form another supplier. But when they came I was unhappy with them as the backs are thinner than the plastic ones I was using and the paper crinkled around the edges. The finished product with those did not look nice. I contacted this company again and asked, since it was their maker, if they have any tips for how to stop that wrinkle from happening. They responded quickly and suggested heavier paper (which I was already using). I said the only alternative I can find is just to go back to the plastic backs. But I can't find those backs like the ones that came with the machine in their store. The only other backs they had look exactly like the metal ones I just tried except in plastic. I was worried I would have the same issue. They then offered to send me a sample pack of the plastic ones for free so I can test them out. Well I have to say, after receiving them that they work fabulously. I'll be sticking with those backs and from this supplier too. They have been so communicative and so helpful they've earned some customer loyalty with me. So now I am still, over a year later, happily making buttons. For anyone curious, the paper I use that I am very pleased with is the Epson Presentation Paper Matte (8.5x11 Inches, 100 Sheets) (S041062) which I bought here on Amazon. It provides a nice clean crisp image. The organizer I use to store my button making supplies is the Creahaus 16.1 L(17 US Qt) Organizers and Storage Box with Removable Tray, Durable Plastic Containers with Lid and Latching Buckles, Stackable Art&Craft Box for Organizing Toy, Bead(Grey). The maker and paper and printed button pages fit well in the bottom and all the supplies fit in the top tray. Extra supplies can always go in the bottom with the maker if needed.
