RIVERHEAD The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness

This book was absolutely incredible. I’m not much of a reader, but had to purchase for a course, and I couldn’t put the book down!! Very relatable, and really relevant to what is going on in the world around us!

If you have struggled and the unknown is knocking you down, this book Is healing. It’s ok you don’t know yet, that doesn’t invalidate what’s really going on for you. I feel like this author paints the invisible chronic illness experience with it’s multitudinous variety of symptoms in a uniting way for so many who have had similar experiences. Would recommend.

It takes the author a long while to get to the point. She definitely did a great deal of research. If that’s not your thing then skip over it. She gets to the point eventually but it takes a while. It’s an important subject with important information for people suffering from medical conditions that doctors don’t understand and don’t know how to treat.

For many of us living with a chronic illness and most especially a connective tissue disorder, this book offers us what is needed most at this time in our lives- Inspiration! I read page after page about Meghan's struggle to find answers and felt the pain and frustration of trying to put the pieces to the puzzle together with minimal help from the medical establishment that is mired in outdated ways of viewing chronic, often unexplained illness that can't be fixed with a prescription or a surgery. Thank You Meghan for the volumes and countless hours of research that you have shared with us. Hopefully, this starts a long overdue conversation about paramount changes that are needed in how chronically ill patients are treated as well as the overly specialized nature in which we approach every patient with no one medical professional overseeing care for this large, and rapidly growing population.
