Out of the darkness with Bell Howell Lights
Great product to have if one doesn't have a generator when an outage occurs during a storm. It's brigh and illuminates the room. Versatile since it can be hung or placed on a table for floor; also it can be carried from room to room; I ordered two lights and now on this date June 19 the weather forecaster predicted a storm that might cause a black out or outage and I don't care because I have the Bell Howell lights ready to use.

Great item, so useful. Just buy it, you will not be sorry!
I already had one of these (bought it years ago) and wanted another, found it at an awesome price on Amazon, very happy! This light is so versatile. When I showed it to a handyman he thought it was fabulous, especially since it can be hung up on both the long and short ends and can be stood up like an easel, making it hands-free. I keep both of them charged up in case of a power outage. It has a couple of settings and it lasts for a long time when fully charged. Great item for any room, for a car, for camping, and would make a perfect grab bag gift!

The Bell & Howell Light Bar: still a disappointment
The Bell & Howell Light Bar used to be a big TV promotion along with the TacLight, TacVisor and other similar products. Why it has since faded from the limelight is perhaps because few people buy it and it lacks some common sense features. First off, it needs a better battery. The Light Bar doesn't hold a charge for very long. If you forget to turn it off for fifteen or twenty minutes, you'll have a dead battery and you'll need to recharge it from a wall socket overnight. Another reviewer here claims he took apart his Light Bar to find two tiny lead acid batteries. No wonder it poops out so quickly! One would have expected a Lithium Ion battery or at least a NiMH. This is my second Light Bar, the first one developed a bad battery that could no longer be recharged. I couldn't just keep it plugged into the wall, because doing so could be a fire hazard. Bell & Howell needs to give the Light Bar replaceable batteries (i.e. rechargeable AA batteries) instead of the non-replaceable short life battery it now has. I'm sure the thinking at Bell & Howell was: "make 'em buy a whole new Light Bar when the battery poops out." The second flaw is the Light Bar's brightness...or lack thereof. In the TV commercial, the Light Bar's "bright mode" was called "insane mode." That's a laugh. It has sixty cob LEDs and "insane mode" isn't even as bright as one of my small flashlights with only one cob LED. When I stand at my kitchen sink, my body casts a shadow, making it difficult to see what's happening in the sink. I got the idea to attach the Light Bar under the cabinet above the sink; I did this with Velcro strips. It would have been nice if Bell & Howell had provided the Velcro strips...just another Bell & Howell omission, I guess. The Light Bar actually has a few positive features, but it isn't worth my time going over them while the basic product remains unimproved.

A must buy!!!
This is the ultimate light you can have when the lights go out. It illuminate the entire room. This is an excellent choice.

This has to be the best portable bar light I ever bought. Have used it from looking under a bed..to night time looking under the hood of my car. You name it. Charge stays very long time. Endless possibilities for this items use. For me it's for emergency lighting. I think it's should be better priced. But same as advertising on TV.

I bought this light to use in our BBQ gazebo and it does a wonderful job. The HIGH setting is very bright but I can see well enough even with the LOW setting. I did find some glaring contradictions between the advertised description on the Amazon.ca page and the Usage Instructions booklet that came with it: o The advertised description states "One charge produces enough power for 24 hours of non-stop brightness!". The Usage Booklet states "When it is fully charged, Light Bar can be used continuously for about 5 hours in the HIGH mode, and about 10 hours in the LOW mode." o The advertised description states that the Light Bar is "weather-proof". The Usage Booklet states "Always store the unit indoors." o The charging light doesn't go out no matter how long I've charged it. However, these don't detract from the Light Bar's usefulness. It works exactly as I'd hoped and I'm keeping it!

I got this light Yesterday Morning. At first I plug it in and charge it. While it is charging, I turn it on just to check see if it was working. The lights works, but very dim. I figure I may have to wait it fully charge. I went to work. Came back 10 hours later. Unplug the cord, turn it on. I got a bright light FLASH! then nothing. The thing dead! I don't know I am one of the unlucky one that got a defective product or what! But now, I have to return it to Amazon!

Nice and bright, but defective - as the red light that tells you the unit is charging NEVER EVER TURNS OFF. Apparently, this affects most of these units, so you never really know if the light is fully charged or if you're overcharging it. Works well for now, but who knows for how long. Good idea, but poorly executed, as is often the case with as seen on TV products. Will test at camp this summer. At least it is lightweight and portable.
