Russia's Near Abroad...
In 2008, the new Republic of Georgia unwisely provoked a fight with Russia over the contested Georgian provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Georgian forces were no match for the numbers that could be generated by Russia and its regional allies. The result derived Georgia of a significant portion of its national territory. A poorly coordinated performance also prompted Russia to relook the readiness of its forces for conventional conflict. This Osprey Elite series book by experienced author Mark Galeotti provides a terse but informative account of the war and some insights into what worked, and what didn't, for the Georgians and the Russians. The text is nicely supported by period photographs, maps, and illustrations. Well recommended as a precursor to the current conflict in Ukraine.

Make sure you realize.......
Make sure you know this pamphlet is just that and not a full sized 8x11 book. A good summary type publication. Lots of graphics.

Excellent coverage of the 2008 Russia Invasion of the nation of Georgia
I have enjoyed reading Osprey books for many years. The coverage of Modern warfare, Vietnam War, Korean War, WWII, WWI, Civil War, Crimean War, Middle Ages, and ancient world -including tactics, weapons and armored vehicles and aircraft is spot on IMHO.

informative book about a forgotten war
Well-written and illustrated to the usual high quality readers of Osprey books expect. I recommend it for those interested in the wars fought in the wake of the USSR’s collapse.

Good book about a short war
Really enjoyed this book, which is especially relevant with the ongoing Ukraine War. Unlike Ukraine, Georgia submitted to Russia after only five days of war and one major battle. Book covers all events of the short war in good detail, and the author has written another excellent book on the Chechen Wars, the first of the three big modern Russian wars. Hope he writes a book about Ukraine next.

Interesting subject and a quick read
Given the limitations of the Vanguard format, this book does a good job at providing an interesting and informative overview of the chosen topic. Recommended as a good starting point.

ウクライナとの比較対象
2023年現在極めて有能な駐日大使を派遣しているジョージアがロシアに侵攻された5日間のことが書かれています。ウクライナ紛争がなぜ長期化しているのかという観点で読んでいくと有益かもしれません。
