One of my older adopted pigeons got a swollen foot due to some thread being stuck around his toes. That was easy enough to remove, but the swelling made the band tight and the leg raw, (it was a custom plexiglass metal custom addressed band, very thick, from a previous owner; i like banding with the standard thinner smoother npa bands instead). This saved the day. He is now putting pressure on the foot again. This thing cut through the band like butter. If you keep poultry, absolutely keep one of these at hand for emergencies. Saved a ton of money at the vet, if i could find one that sees pigeons.

My dove somehow got his leg band up around his thigh so i needed to get that off. It cut through great. So..i wanted to take my parrots band off too. I know these bands bother the birds. It would not cut through my parrots band. So..i feel the dove had an aluminum one, parrot had steel. This...for$20..would NOT cut through steel.
