Great tool for do-it-yourselfers at a great price.
Just finished changing the timing belt on my 3.4L Toyota V-6, and I was impressed enough with this tool that I had to write a short review.This is a quality, American-made tool that made a fairly difficult task quite a bit easier. Eliminates the need to remove the timing belt tensioner from the vehicle to compress it. After changing my belt and partially re-assembling the engine to check my timing marks I found that I was one tooth off on both cams. So I got to do it all over again! Without this tool I would still be cursing.One important note about using the tool: Be patient! You have to allow the oil to bleed off the tensioner, so just take it really easy during the compression. I would turn the nut on the tool about a half turn, then wait about 30 seconds, then another turn. Use the locking pin to feel for the hole in the tensioner shaft as you compress the tensioner. Be patient and you'll be rewarded with a successful belt change.

Good Tool
Bought this tool for changing out the water pump and timing belt on a 3.4 v6 in a 1999 4runner. Worked great once i figured out what was going on. Like others commented, the tool can come apart on you. It has about 10 threads before it comes apart. At first i was maxing out at the 10th thread and unable to get the pin to slide through. Later, i found out i was completely missing the hole in the tensioner rod with the included locking pin. I had to rotate the tensioner rod with some vice grips so that the hole lined up with the hole in the tensioner for the pin. Afterwards, I counted 8 threads at which point the pin went through the ram on the tensioner. I also tightened a 5" c-clamp on the inside of the roller and the bolt of the tensioner as a back up in-case the pin let go.

Works Great
I used this tensioner compressor on my 4Runner 3.4L and it simplified the timing belt replacement by not requiring removal of the AC compressor bracket and the timing belt tensioner. Follow the included instructions and don't tighten the compressor too fast. It takes several seconds for the fluid to bleed down from the hydraulic tensioner and if you tighten it too quickly and too hard you could break something.As you begin to tighten the nut on the tool, probe carefully into the hole on the tensioner dust boot with the included "pin." Take your time, pause for a few seconds as you feel the compression build up in the tool, and you can feel the tensioner holes line up. Carefully slide the pin completely through the tensioner holes and back out the nut on the tool. Install your new timing belt and pull the pin on the tensioner.

great tool!
I was hesitant to pay this much money for a small simple tool but it is a lifesaver when changing the 4runners timing belt. One side wanted to roll over off time whenever i stretched the belt and i wound up taking the belt off three times before i got it right. Each time this would help reset the tensioner. TAKE IT SLOW on compressing the tensioner. This tool will not fit with the timing belt on. Remove it first, pull and pull some more.

Real time saver!
2000 4Runner 3.4L V6. This tool allows you to do the timing belt without removing the A/C compressor. If you're going to replace the tensioner anyway you don't need this, but it really doesn't need it and you save yourself a lot of time and aggravation by using this. My only complaint was the retaining pin had a pretty substantial burr on it that made it difficult to remove. I didn't see it until after the fact. File that off before you start and you'll be better off.

Worth the money.
Needed to pull my timing belt twice recently. Pulling the AC compressor and bracket to get to the T-belt tensioner is a pain. This tool eliminates the need to remove the tensioner. Figure it saved me a couple hours each time. A specialized tool I might only use once...felt like an extravagance when I bought it. Feels like a fantastic buy now.Build is quality. Does what it is supposed to do.
