A breastfeeding mom's best friend
I have to admit I first tried to save a few bucks and bought a cheaper nursing cover from one of the big chain stores thinking it would work the same. I could not have been more wrong. After using that cheap nursing cover ONCE I was turned off by it's cheap thin fabric and I felt like I was trying to cover up with a washcloth it was so small. So I gave in and ordered one of these Bebe Au Lait nursing covers hoping the price would be worth it...While you could always sew one of your own (or have a friend who's handy with the sewing machine make you one!) I found the Bebe Au Lait to be well worth the price. I think this fabric is lovely and classy! It's made with much more care and quality than the chain store cheap version I bought first, so I advise against making the same mistake I made. There are just a few baby products I feel are simply worth the extra cost - the Boppy, the Sophie giraffe, etc - and this item has made the list.I especially appreciate the two pockets which are the perfect size for my Lansinoh breast pads and make it so easy to discreetly change pads. The second pocket (since there are two!) I use for my Latch Assist. The pockets are also made of terry cloth to help you wipe up any moisture, a fantastic detail! Yesterday I found I was even able to tighten the strap easily with one hand during a feeding. The curved boning which allows you to see your baby has held up well after being stuffed into the diaper bag for a few weeks now. Finally, the main point with this product is to cover up! The Bebe Au Lait is large enough for me to feel comfortable breastfeeding in almost any setting while still allowing me a view of my baby. I'm all for public breastfeeding and moms have the right to do so, not all moms feel the need to cover up and that's ok with me because breastfeeding is natural and beautiful. But that said, many moms prefer privacy and more personal modesty when it comes to breastfeeding and this nursing cover is such a benefit to us.I'm very pleased with this purchase, this will definitely be one of the first items I think of as a baby shower gift for my friends!

Cadillac of Nursing Covers
The first time around, my wife tried to use a receiving blanket, or a blanket with a neck loop attached. Needless to say, our baby hated either of these and threw them off. With our second baby, we tried a couple different nursing cover, and ANY real nursing cover is MUCH better because it has lighter, breathable fabric, and more importantly, it has a built in ring that gives it some shape at the top. This makes a window where Mommy can see Baby, Baby can see Mommy, and it keeps Baby from feeling smothered. All good things! The two models we tried were the Bebe au Lait Premium Cotton Nursing Cover and the Udder Covers brand. Our feeling was that you get what you pay for. The Bebe au Lait is definitely better, but to be fair, it costs 2-2.5x as much. Features that make the Bebe au Lait better are that the ring at the top is nicer--more of a rounded D-shape, whereas the Udder Cover one has a flimsy-feeling V-shape one. The fabric is also nicer on the Bebe au Lait: it's smoother/softer, and it's a little bigger, so it provides more coverage if Baby is wiggly. The terry-cloth pockets were never particularly useful as pockets for us, though the blotting was occasionally useful during the frequent spit-up phase. They are, however, nice in that they provide just a little bit of weighting for it.For that reason, I would call the Bebe au Lait nursing cover the Cadillac model. The Udder Cover one is, however, a perfectly serviceable Toyota. (It does even have one advantage: it's smaller. It takes up less space in a diaper bag, and it's even small enough that I can easily stuff it in the pocket of my cargo shorts whereas the Bebe au Lait one is too big and bulky to be comfortable.)My advice is to get a Bebe au Lait If you're going to be using it at all regularly; it is worth the one-time cost to get one as your primary nursing cover. The Udder Cover one makes a great backup to use when you're washing your main one, or if you need to stash a spare somewhere.

Lifesaver!
Why I never thought to get this as a baby shower gift is beyond me. I first decided that I would need this product for Disney World. I wanted something light colored so it would not absorb the Florida heat and make it unbearable for my son. This design Chateau Silver was classy, unisex, light and very, very comfortable in the hot humid weather of Disney World. It was easy to put on, simply hang the entire cover over your neck and you are good to go. He couldn't yank it off, he couldn't kick it away. Perfect! I was very relaxed and comfortable enough to nurse him with my feet folded on any chair or bench for support, even wearing a skirt, and not worrying that I might show off more than I desired. Don't let the image on the page here fool you, the cover was generous in length and breadth, enough for myself and the tyke, and I am a size 14!Clean up was very easy, just throw in the wash and the curved stiff collar came out just fine even through the dryer, no ironing or starching business. I did use gentle fabric wash just in case, I love the design so very much!If there's one thing I didn't use it was the side pockets. The good thing about those is that it is terry cloth and weighed the entire cover down enough to not get windblown after catching a gust or two. Neat! All in all, if I had one word to describe this item, I would deem it a Lifesaver. You there, public nursing mother struggling with a blanket, get this item!!! Worth every penny, and after the breastfeeding stage, also great for them to take naps in your arms. Or to use as a stroller cover. The possibilities are endless!
