Epson EcoTank ET-3850 Review 2025
Setting up the Epson EcoTank ET3850 is a straightforward process that I found particularly efficient for a home office environment. Here’s a detailed overview of my experience:Simple Setup:For an easy start, simply scan the QR code on the screen. After using an office HP printer with a wide range of options, I struggled to find a home printer with similar features. The EcoTank ET3850 meets all the necessary requirements—except for a touchscreen—but its overall functionality more than makes up for it.Initial Preparation:Before beginning, remove all the tape from the package and fill the no-mess ink reservoirs. The software plays an essential role in getting the most out of the printer. Download the Epson Smart Panel from the App Store or Google Play, and configure your computer to your home network, preferably using a secure WPS connection. Also, download the Epson Print & Scan app on your computer.Online Registration and epsonconnect Setup:After installing the apps, register online for the epsonconnect printer setup. Once logged in, you’ll see your unique Epson Printer email address, which will appear as a combination of letters and numbers ending with @print.epsonconnect.com. Although this email address can be changed, it remains separate from the email address you used to register. This unique address is crucial since you will use it to remotely email documents to your printer.Additional Tips:To print, ensure you press “OK” to activate the print button on the control panel. If you just wake the printer from sleep mode without following this process, it will not execute the print job—a mistake I nearly made before realizing the importance of this step. Many negative reviews seem to stem from operator error rather than a fault with the printer itself; proper setup is key.Renewed Purchase and Final Recommendations:Purchasing a renewed unit is a sound choice, as the full warranty remains in effect once the printer is registered online. Our experience has been very positive, and I believe you will be too. Keep in mind that, like any mechanical device, the parts and electronics may eventually wear out. Before you unbox your new printer, I highly recommend watching a quick YouTube video on unboxing and setting up the Epson EcoTank ET3850. This will save you time and give you a solid understanding of the printer’s features. If you found this review helpful, please consider giving it an upvote.Happy printing!

GOOD PRODUCT
I purchased an HP Smart Tank from Amazon, and it worked well for about three weeks. It started making grinding noises, so Amazon replaced it with the same kind of printer. The second one worked a few times, and I quit picking up paper. I paid $60.00 each time to have it set up. There was no customer support if you didn’t want to read a lengthy manual, which was hard to understand. Amazon refunded me again, THANK YOU AMAZON. I purchased this printer and it is the difference between night and day. It is quiet, quick, and easy to operate. It came with one sheet of instructions and a phone number for support. I called, and he sent me an email with clear instructions, and it was easy to set up. I am well pleased with this printer.

Refurbished Epson doesn't work and can't return - AVOID!
AVOID!! The refurbished printers are junk. Worked less than 6 months. Now barely prints (extremely slow - like 5+ minutes for one page of simply plain black text) AND stops printing 1 or 2 pages into any documents with more pages. I've done every troubleshooting step that exists. I am very technologically savvy, have no issue troubleshooting but this just continues to break down every time you fix something... Firmware updates, reconnect to wifi (drops constantly). The not printing though is not a connection issue, the thing just stops printing even while still connected. Turned off sleep timer, checked print head, refilled ink, tried printing from different computers/laptops, etc etc etc. Done every possible troubleshooting step to fix it and sometimes it fixes but at this point it's going in the trash. Epson will not warranty it and Amazon will not honor returns past 90 days for refurbished. Of course it waited til after 90 days to crap out. Just buy it new, get a warranty or go to a different brand.

Like new, good low price
I got this printer because we have another one of these at our main house, and I finally gave up on using my XP computers and my great HP6L laser printers at our second house. Grudgingly I switched to an Win 11 laptop, with no ability to talk to the HP6L's. We've been happy with our older Epson ET 3850, other than a fixable clog from not using it while we were away. Love the ink tank mode. Had some Canon and HP ink jets that were expensive to run and failed way too fast. When I saw the renewed price in like new condition, I bought this. It is impossible to tell from the one we got new. The set up instructions are very brief. I was confused by the step to remove something that blocked some movement under the scan lid, I could find nothing there, so I ignored that. It connected up with WiFi easily to two laptops. Getting it to talk with my iPhone's app was a bit of a challenge, I'm not certain the phone will talk with the second printer. The app communicates with the older printer. After I take it to the other house and other network, I hope it will see this new one. I'll know shortly. Otherwise, I'll print from a laptop. If there is after sales assistance that is not automated messages that doesn't apply to this issue, I have not been able to locate it. No company wants to actually bother with service for a person anymore it seems.

Had a couple of setbacks
Great product but didn't come with software and am unable to register it. The original purchaser may have registered it and it wasn't reset before resale ?
