5 Stars – Works Wonders Without Scaring the Hummingbirds!
I’ve had the XPCARE Bird Scare Ribbon installed on my home for about two months now, and I’m genuinely impressed with how well it works. I was battling persistent crows tearing up my trash bags and ravaging my garden, hawks lurking too close for comfort, and cliff swallows trying to nest on my home. This reflective ribbon has completely changed the game.A couple of things to know: While it’s labeled as “tape,” it’s actually more of a ribbon, so you’ll need to use tape, tacks, or clips to secure it to buildings or structures. That said, it’s easy to work with and holds up well outdoors. One of my biggest hesitations before purchasing was whether it would scare off the hummingbirds I love to watch—but thankfully, it doesn’t bother them at all. They still come around daily without any issues. The results have been so noticeable that even my neighbors have started using it to protect their homes. I absolutely recommend this product if you’re looking for a non-invasive, affordable, and effective way to deter unwanted birds while still keeping the friendly ones around.

I can tell it works, but you should understand HOW it works...
The media could not be loaded. Even though it turned out I didn't have a bird problem at all (darn bunnies!), it's clear to me that this product works about as well as it could, if you use it properly.First, it's important to understand that there's nothing "magic" about it--it's not that birds have some instinctual terror of shiny objects. So how do I know it works? Because it works on ME. When I'm out in the yard, the combination of the motion in my peripheral vision and the rustling noise they make frequently makes me look up to see what's there (e.g. neighborhood cat, skunk, etc.). Birds would certainly experience the same effect. Of course, birds aren't dumb, and they would quickly realize there wasn't something dangerous for them there if they stick around. But that doesn't solve the problem for them--if they can't tell the rustle and motion from a potential predator, they need to assume it's a potential predator each time it startles them, or risk getting eaten. If they really, really want what's in your garden, they may still risk it, but it remains a risk in a way that, e.g., a scarecrow does not.So the key is to hang the tape in a way that it can flutter in the wind. Attaching it to a nearby wall or fence wouldn't work very well, both because the wind couldn't catch them and because they wouldn't create as powerful an illusion of a critter moving around in the garden. My solution was to hang strips from my tomato cages, and that's pretty much ideal. If you don't have something like the cages, I'd think stringing a piece of clothesline over your garden and hanging them from that would also work well.Incidentally, the stuff is "tape" in the same sense as "measuring tape" or "video tape"--it's a long ribbon wound on a roll. I've seen some reviews that expected it to be adhesive tape, which it's not, and which would also be a terrible idea, because it would quickly get attached to itself and stop working. To attach it to the cages, I just folded one end around the cage wire and then used Scotch tape to seal the loop--Scotch tape sticks to it very well, and my strips have held up to some strong (gale force?) winds this season. The stuff is actually pretty durable considering how easily it snaps around in the wind. I don't think each strip should be expected to last for multiple seasons, but there's a lot on a roll. That's why I give it five stars: it's not going to stop really determined birds. But I just can't imagine a deterrent of this kind that would work any better--it simulates a critter well enough to continually fool me (only for a moment each time, but that's enough!), and it's sturdy enough to last a season. If you REALLY need to keep all the birds out, you'll need netting, but in many cases this should do the trick.

Sometimes magic, sometimes not, but worth a shot if you’re tired of bird trouble.
If you're looking for a low-cost, gentle deterrent for birds and you won’t be surprised if results vary give this one a try. In the right spot and the right time, its holographic flicker can send unwelcome guests packing. But don’t expect it to be impervious to wind, sun, or a stubborn flock. The only real problem is the adhesion, it also ripped easily so durability can be an issue, particularly with any windy conditions. It's certainly eye catching in appearance. We needed extra tape to get things to stick and stay put.In short: worth a shot, but treat it like one tool in your bird-fighting toolbox, not a miracle.

Not effective
There is no cohesive or stickiness on this tape. I tried tacking it down on my railing, but the outside elements quickly blew it down. Use the shiny duct tape that looks the same but with stickiness. $1.25 at Dollar Tree.

not quite 2in wide
Well, mine is not quite two inches wide. I am not one hundred percent convinced that's a bad thing as it makes it easier to wrap around some things like thin poles, and that's really nice. I also like the length of the deterrent. it is really long, and should cover quite a bit of the poles around our garden since we don't need to cover every inch, but more just some intermittent spots to keep the birds at bay - they don't bother our flowers - just the berries and the veggies, and there we really need to keep them out! The foil is a little bit thin, and that might be quite annoying, but all in all it should wrap and be secured just fine, and from there I won't worry about the elements much at all - it is just hard to keep stuff too long with the really intense CO sun, but it if lasts at least one season, and keeps the birds out of our produce, I will be happy. For this task it seems like a perfectly adequate product. The main reason I am giving this 3 stars instead of 4 is that it is just not as wide as advertised, and that means ultimately you cover a lot less area than you thought you would. Good product otherwise, and the price is right to protect your garden.

Works great...maybe too well!
I cut 2' pieces and taped them to planters so they would blow in the breeze to keep the birds away. Not only did it scare birds away, it scared the bejeebers out of me when I walked past and didn't expect it to move and make noise! (It sounds like light weight aluminum foil fluttering.) I guess it works ;)
