The World As Will And Idea (Vol 1 of 3) by Arthur Schopenhauer is a real gem for thinkers in theology, philosophy, general psychology and many other areas. This is definitely not belles lettres literature. The presentation is written to a high scholastic level of achievement. Schopenhauer's writing tends to be dense and complex yet complete in just about every aspect.The presentation will immerse readers in a highly involved definition of the will. The presentation unites the physical side with an almost Pavlovian response of the will as a cooperating force with the body. In Schopenhauer's mind, the physical body and will are virtually one and the same. This reviewer finds that the author takes great pains to define the will of humans and relate it to the ongoing physical functioning. Only a master like Schopenhauer can create a piece such as this one.

Arthur Schopenhauer is one of the most profound philosophers of all time. His major works are monumental. He has a beautiful style of writing, like Plato or Voltaire. He is honest to a fault and tells it like he sees it. He reaches deep into the nature of the world and our ideas and offers realistic insights about existence. His only defect was that he didn't elaborate in the cornucopia of pleasures and good times we enjoy. Yet, what he says as a pessimist is accurate although hyperbolic. Will Durant is correct when he addresses the bitterness of this great man in his "Story of Philosophy." One must study Schopenhauer and not just read him. He offeres great insights and useful normas of life.

Small print but great regardless

Its a slow read and you have to read some sections second time to really understand it. It definitely adds to your understanding and deep thinking. It took a while for me to finish but I think its worth it.

Schopenhauer is of course one of the great philosophers. What is surprising is how pertinent many of his observations are to today's world. He is insightful on consciousness, how we know what we know what we know, or if we know anything (read him and skip Kant. Of course he is German and therefore his prose is often convoluted and obtuse but still, reading him is a good mental workout. Get this book and stave off senility!

Good ole' Schop. I always read Schop when feeling semi-suicidal because he makes such perfect sense. One must read Schop with eye on the elusive rainbow. We can call Schopenhauer the Goth of modern day society. Even though Schopenhauer is absolutely correct and easily understandable it is best to take him in small doses, just for the joy of complete understanding.

ma per me e un pò pesante

This is yet another Kindle book which has a page numbering system which breaks down towards the end.Once the reader enters the final book the same page number remains, as well as the same completion percentage no matter how many pages are read.This is very frustrating and I can only assume that whoever produced this Kindle volume either ran out of concentration or interest and abandoned all commitment to the satisfactory completion of the work. Really poor!

This work is famous because it caused many geneous such as Nietzsche, Wagner, Goethe to pause their daily routine lives for a certain while, just because it is so attractive and powerful.I have tried to read through this work via Japanese translation, however I have to point out that the translators spent much of their energy (in vain) to make their translations looking like more difficult than it really is, which is indeed disgusting. Why don't they realize that their style of translation keep the young readers away from this kind of great work or human heritage?Anyway now I encounter this and it enlightens me to read thru English, which encourages me so much (because I already gave up reading German).In addition, it is so surprising to know this is just 0 Yen!! Incredible.I expect this will surely enrich rest of my life and enjoy reading this by spending whole of my life!
