The secondary fuel cap makes it easy! In the center of the cap, you will find an 1/8 NPT (pipe thread) fitting to which you can easily attach a standard fuel pressure gauge. Attaching a gauge at the top of the filter is much easier than at the factory test port which requires a custom adapter and has a number of obstructions preventing easy access. The pressure test port comes with an allen pipe plug in place - easily removed whenever you wish to measure fuel pressure. Do not under-estimate the importance of checking fuel pressure on a 6.0L diesel! Low fuel pressure is a leading cause of premature injector failure. The oil cap features a standard 1/4 NPT pressure port which can be used as a connection point for the following; an oil pressure gauge, an oil temperature sending unit, or a bypass oil filter system. Larger 1/4 NPT connection allows adequate flow for bypass filtration compared to smaller ports on competitive caps. The horizontal fuel conditioning module (HFCM) mounted primary fuel filter is located on the suction side of the electric fuel pump. Factory service procedures specify using a fuel vacuum/pressure gauge connected at the HFCM drain plug port by means of a Ford special tool to check for problems in the suction side of the fuel system such as a restricted fuel tank pickup sock. The test port on this filter cap will allow the same testing to be performed at a lower cost. Silver cap sets are also available.
