Weight Loss Surgery Does NOT Treat Food Addiction
J**T
The title of the book says it all!
I am a food addict and have read multiple books on the subject. I'm also a nurse that recently started working for a Bariatric surgeon. The author is "spot on" about weight loss surgery being a business like any other business. At the end of the day, you need to meet your quotas. Food addiction is really not addressed, but should be, in my opinion. I think this book would be the perfect companion for anyone who is thinking about weight loss surgery or those who have already had weight loss surgery. I agree with the author that Bariatric surgery is a great tool in the morbid obesity treatment "tool box", but it isn't the only tool. If a patient is a food addict, (I believe at least 90% are), then this needs to be explored. I would love to see this book on our Book List that we give to patients at their first consult visit. At the very least, the patients could be given the quiz to find out if they have food addiction. I highly recommend this book!

Gifted writer!
This is a very well written book meant by the author I believe, to open our eyes of the realities of addiction, particularly in this case, food addiction. Dr Stapleton is really good at describing word pictures which take you off the defensive to instead, desiring to do what is necessary (facing your pain), to enter the land of freedom. I would highly recommend reading this book and them embracing the truths that are necessary to achieve emotional healing which will in turn, bring about the healthy, whole lives we were originally meant to live.

Easy To Understand And Follow
This book is easy to understand and follow. I learned alot about how thoughts and habits effect your long term weight loss efforts. I also discovered that I don’t have food addiction. The book has provided me a base of which I can think more critically about my cognitive behavior around food.

meh
It's more of a autobiography. It appears the main modality for FA is 12-Steps according to this author. There's not really all that much information on how one can help themselves.

Just what I was looking for!
I have been participating in several medical weight loss programs over the last 6 years or so and every single one has missed the emotional and supportive component in a BIG WAY. As an emotional eater and possibly addict when it comes to food (shopping is my replacement) it has been so difficult finding the right information that speaks to me and that should be implemented into EVERY SINGLE weight loss program out there.Dr. Stapleton speaks my language and has helped me TREMENDOUSLY by publishing her work and I basically told my bariatric program that they need her program to fulfill a void in their weight loss program. I don't know if they will follow through with it, but if they truly want success for their patient's long term, they will fully endorse her work or get a qualified psychologist on board.I infinity and beyond endorse and recommend her books and programs, This is one book that is a must-read for prepping for weight loss surgery. Good Luck! Thank you Thank you Thank you Dr. Stapleton, you are an angel!

You've heard the amazing testimonials: Morbidly obese person has surgery
You've heard the amazing testimonials: Morbidly obese person has surgery, sheds 150 pounds, lives healthfully ever after.....It's no wonder the demand for weight loss operations has tripled since 2001 .... Weight loss surgery is no quick fix; it requires major lifestyle changes and lifetime follow-up....I am not the enemy of such kind surgery's ... I know it is very helpful for many people ....BUT !!! it scare me to see people are using it as quick solution without confrontation to figure honesty out "why the food is so powerful" over them ...Weight surgery's became the big runner next to "wonder" diet's, pills etc what as first have to make the surgeon & his staff rich .... Connie Stapleton explain very clear and honesty this topic in her new book "Weight Loss Surgery Does NOT Treat Food Addiction" and I truly enjoying this book with deep respect for her courage to speak out "what is the matter" ...If you want to know "what is the matter" I can tell you "we use food for the same reasons an addict uses drugs: to comfort, to soothe, to ease stress !!!" , yes scream at me "wth?" ... It's unwanted truth to see food as drug , It's unwanted to come out with " I'm food addicted" FOR CLEAR EXPLANATION READ THE BOOK ...IT'S WORTH YOUR TIME ....

YES!!!!
I’m preparing for bypass surgery and want to feel mentally and emotionally ready. This book is so very helpful in my quest. For once, I feel “normal”. Reading this book was educational, relatable, and validating. Having surgery is a tool and only part of the equation. Understanding our relationship with food is paramount to long term success and I believe this book has thrusted me in the right direction.

No pierdas tu tiempo.

Not very helpful
Not a very helpful book, more of a biography of the authors addictions. Pertains more to her alcohol/drug addiction, not many specific guidelines. Save your money.
