Incredible art lots of action amazing story

The adventures continue in Hickman's grand finale as the Avengers machine and Illuminati collide while worlds die. So much payoff here as Hickman builds up to Secret Wars. The story gets bogged down in his big science ideas and clunky dialogue here and there but no other complaints. There are a ton of artists who all do fantastic work as well. The omnibus itself is of good quality. Like the first volume it is made of thin paper, sewn binding, and is kinda heavy. A lot of issues. This technically is not the end of Hickman's Avengers/Marvel run as Secret Wars rounds it up. But that is a wonderful read as well. Enjoy!

First the good: Hickman constructs a long and elaborate morality tale setting up Secret Wars, which, if you just read the collected edition of that, is very cursory and disappointing--only because there was so much more story to tell. Next, the art. Excellent throughout. I wish they had put the covers with each issue so that I could know the number, then check with the table of contents to know who drew what. Now for the truly disappointing: The story wanders a lot. And I mean a lot. And then jumps to a new storyline with no helpful threads for the reader. Maybe the original issues had "previously" or "as you saw in an issue of the FF, this happened, etc." but as a collection, I'm often baffled. I've read the volume twice now, and I can still only try to piece things together. Maybe this is what he means? Who is this character? No idea. I didn't read vol. 1, so you can say that's my fault, but I should have helpful hints along the way from the writer.

Collecting AVENGERS (2012) #24-44 and NEW AVENGERS (2013) #13-33.

Less interesting than watching paint dry. It drags on and on and makes little sense. Hickman's writing is so overrated. He manages to make heroes and villains totally uninteresting and wooden and when one writes in a million characters- like Hickman does- it just becomes a total mess.

Volume 1 was very good. Volume 2 (this one) is off the charts good! I can't wait to re-read it! The character struggles and choices made with regards to what's ethically right vs the greater good makes these books an absolute thrill to read.
