Shiny Galileo Thermometer Amber 13"

Trying to find a Christmas present for my father who never wants anything is difficult. My dad is interested in the weather and has several cheap battery operated weather stations at home. While searching on Amazon I stumbled across this item and thought it was pretty interesting. The concept was interesting. The little baubles will rise or sink to show you the temperature of the room. I wasn't sure if it really worked but for the price I took a shot. Several things surprised me. First the size of this item. I didn't check the specifications to see the height and this thermometer is over a foot high. It's actually perfect to stand out and be a conversation piece. So that's not a complaint. Second is how beautiful it is. There's others on here that are multicolored and they look cheap. The gold baubles give it an elegant expensive look. The photos do no justice to what this thermometer looks like in person. The third thing that surprised me is that it actually works! Now it cannot give you an exact temperature but it gives you a very close idea. How it works is some baubles will rise and the others will fall as a result of the temperature of the room cooling/warming the liquid in the thermometer. Look at the ones that have risen to the top and the temp on the lowest of the floating baubles will be around what the temp of the room is. We've checked it several times and it's always been accurate. I was also nervous when ordering it that it may arrive damaged. To my surprise the thermometer is surrounded by very thick styrofoam. It arrived undamaged thanks to this. My dad was very pleased with this item. It turns out he had a smaller one when he was a child (of course with the multi color baubles). I have attached a photo of how it appears next to our salt lamp bowl without lighting and what it looks like in normal lighting.

Mine came unbroken and I love this thing. Really nice modern look.

Giftee was disappointed at 1st but now enjoys it.
