Helena Rubinstein: The Woman Who Invented Beauty
E**Y
All girls, young and more mature love a good pamper and this is a biography of a pioneer who made this possible.
the name Helena Rubinstein was synonymous with complexion care during her long lifetime. As a 20year old, I sought out her Skin Dew in the pharmacy of the small town where I taught. With amazement and despair, I found lately that my beautician in her 40's had never heard of Helena Rubinstein. That is why this biography is inspiring, informative and necessary especially in light of Helena's early Australian outback experience contrasting sharply with her home in Poland. How this uneducated girl from a family of many daughters rose to be the toast of London, Paris and New York and an inspiration to leaders in society and the arts is a marvellous read for us women.I recommend it thoroughly.

A woman ahead of her time
This is a well written book. A true story of the life of a very courageous woman who dragged herself out of poverty to better her life. So successful was she in improving her own life, she was soon able to help and improve the lives of many of her family members. The kind of determination and drive Helena Rubenstein had, consumed her life. Her husband and sons seem to have paid a high price for her success. Money offered her a very colorful life but it became her master, her tormentor as she learnt to use it to control the very people she loved most. A most interesting story, well worth reading about.

to a genuinely amazing person who wrapped the world around her little finger ...
Worshipful, inspirational and possibly fantastical. This is a tribute, indeed, to a genuinely amazing person who wrapped the world around her little finger and championed women's rights during the times around the world when women were receiving the right to vote. There is a feel of the fantastic, and it is clear that the author has written quite lovingly of Helena Rubinstein. Overall a good read.**eARC netgalley**

Excelente biografía
Un libro de una mujer que vale la pena leer. Su valentía, sufrimiento, éxito, etc. Lo único es que es un poco lento pero la enseñanza que me deja vale mucho la pena.

Beauty History and Inspiration
I didn't want this book to end (although I knew it had to). Brilliantly written, many times it was a real page turner as I couldn't wait to see what happened next in the life of the extraordinary Helena Rubenstein. The book is packed with facts (some eyebrow raising) yet written in the style of a novel which makes it very easy and enjoyable to read.Having worked in the beauty industry (marketing/production side of it) for some years I thought I already knew a lot about it. What a revelation this book was. It is like a compact history of the indsutry and the woman who most influenced it, the woman who created the products we still buy today. This is an inspirational story about a tiny woman who started with nothing and went on to be the first female millionaire in America. She was a pioneer in her field, an innovator with enviable energy that lasted into old age. Despite her personality flaws one can't help but end up very fond of Madame by the end of reading this book.Thank you Michele Fitoussi for a great read and one that I highly recommend to anyone interested in the beauty industry / female entrepreneurs.

Fascinating
As a writer of fashion and beauty fiction, I was interested to read this book for essential research. This is an incredible true story of rags to riches, and it's a who's who of the period, from artists, film stars, couturiers, royalty, aristocrats etc. Although it's about the creation of the beauty industry as we know it today, you feel that Helena Rubinstein would have been a success whatever she turned her hand to. She was just that kind of super driven person. In many ways, she reminded me of Coco Chanel in her personality, another great icon. They both met and found they had much in common. But did money and success bring happiness? Well to know that you must read this very informative book.

Oh my God, but this book! I’ve read it 3 times
Oh my God this book was outstanding in so many ways. The research the author did is absolutely incredible, suffice to say, I brought it on holiday and hid around our hotel as I couldn’t put it down and my family were begging me to stop for a few hours lol. Left me loving Helena even more!

Strong Lady!
Helena Rubinstein was an obsessive worker who appears never to have taken a day off. She obviously achieved a lot in the building of her empire of beauty salons. This left no time for anything else so her interests outside of this were practically nil. Obsessive in the extreme and very competitive in the beauty world. Does not come across as an interesting person.
