Chiodos' highly anticipated third full length, Illuminaudio, is an exciting progression for the band. New singer Brandon Bolmer (formerly Yesterday's Rising) brought a fresh dynamic to the band and perfectly complemented their maturing song writing.

my favorite rock album ever!
This isn't the same Chiodos you heard on the first 2 albums (Alls Well.... ,and Bone Palace..). They used a different singer for this album since Craig Owens had temporarily left; this singer Brandon has a much more mature singing voice (and not emo-sounding like Craig, though I like Craig) but still reaches the same range as Craig. The music is so well produced with dynamics and such that its just so pleasing to the ears. I play guitar and when I listen to music I pay attention to what/how it is played, but with this whole album it all blends together so well that I haven't picked up on any of my usual musical disection. For that reason and because I'm always so distracted by the beauty and these songs. I've listened to the whole album straight through probably like 40 times since I've had it for a few months. I can listen everyday and still not get sick of it. I wish there was more of this stuff but ill take what I can get. Every single track is awesome and very catchy!

Great album
The new singer is a great addition to the band. While I generally don't agree with bands changing a singer and continuing with the same name, this change does not adversely effect the quality of the music or the overall FEEL of the band.I've seen them live twice and just hope that he performs as well of a show as the original singer. All that said, this album is not what I would call the best work of the band, but it certainly contains moments of greatness and is a fantastic step considering the singer-change. I'd rate it a 4.5, but that is not allowed.

Another great album
Unlike their other albums, this one took a little to grow on me. It is important to note that this album isn't completely over the top screamo (which I actually really like). After this album, I finally realized that my favorite songs of theirs are actually the slower ones. As others have noted, the vocals are dynamic. The singer has a good voice that works on many levels, slow/fast or loud/soft. I find it to be a really good workout CD.

Fantastic!
This album is the first album released without former lead singer Craig Owens. When I first heard the news of Owens departure, I was quickly apt to follow Owens steps and ignore Chiodos. I felt as though Craig Owens made the band and Chiodos was doomed without him.I was wrong. With Illuminaudio, they have set a new standard for new music today. Putting the past behind them, they have successfully moved forward with their new lead singer, Brandon Bolmer (formerly of Yesterday's Rising) and dominated the scene once again. Bolmer's voice soothes each song perfectly with his calming approach to the album, especially the track "Caves". This song introduces Bolmer to fans of Chiodos, showing that this band isn't going anywhere but up! Bolmer's melodies and screams are "Grade A": A good call for Chiodos to snatch up such a fantastic vocalist. The new drummer is nothing to be ignored either. Tanner Wayne (formerly of Underminded and Scary Kids Scaring Kids), blows up Illuminaudio with his tight beats and full-sounding fills. A fantastic recruit as well.I had the pleasure to see Chiodos on their new tour with co/headliners Blessthefall (and others) in Seattle. Chiodos is sounding better than ever! I recommend this album to any former Chiodos fans and genre fans alike. They aren't stopping anytime soon: A force to be reckoned with.

One of my favorite albums--must have
Absolutely gorgeous, BIG SOUND, post-hardcore rock opera. Each song is unique. Beautiful melodies and harmonies. LOTS of creativity. Love the fantasy theme. This album is a wonderful ear/brain orgasm. I can listen to this album on repeat and it never gets old.

Sublime and Subversive
This album blew me away. Chiodos has done it again. You can listen to this entire album, starting at the beginning and letting it run through to the end. That is so rare these days. Most albums have three or four strong songs and the rest are just filler. Not so with Illuminaudio.

Best album 2010
Easily one of the most creative albums I've ever heard. Every single member of Chiodos should be proud of this album and the work they put in.

Chiodos - Owens = ?
Illuminaudio, Chiodos' first album since parting ways with founding-vocalist Craig Owens, will inevitably divide opinion. The band, once defined by Owens, made the painful decision to let him go in September 2009, and many within the business wondered whether the band would be able to continue without him.Continue they did though, eventually hiring former Yesterday's Rising vocalist Brandon Bolmer and releasing Illuminaudio a year later. The record is a decent stab at post-hardcore, with Brandon Bolmer performing admirably on vocal duties, sounding at times like Dustin Kensrue of Thrice and at others almost like Geoff Rickly of Thursday/Ink & Dagger. The problem is not a lack of power, musicianship or ideas, it's almost that in trying to banish the ghost of Owens, Chiodos are trying a bit too hard. There's plenty to enjoy, but a little too much to digest. Where Thirce's Vheissu took the genre to a new level in terms of atmospherics and Thursday continue to churn out brilliant songs, Chiodos are a little too frenetic, a little too desperate to please.Illuminaudio is a stepping stone to life as a new band for Chiodos though, and a necessary one. I for one will be interested to hear where they go next.
