A Helpful Tool In Our Flea Control Regimen!
We have double coated, long haired, very furry large Northern Breed Mixed Dogs. Unfortunately, fleas are a year round problem here in the San Francisco Bay Area where we live ... Ugh! Advantage II Topical Flea Treatment & Prevention is an effective tool in our flea control regimen. - Easy to apply the topical drops on your dog's skin along the backbone. - Our dogs have never had any skin irritation or other negative reactions with this product. - The 6 pack is a terrific value. I highly recommend this product.

Gets the job done
It's hard to find an affordable, OTC flea repellant that applies monthly on the neck and WORKS. This stuff does the job. I have two 25 pound dogs and the small dog application is way smaller and ridiculously expensive. Our monthly budget is super tight, but I must take care of my animals, so I went looking for a cheaper way to get a good OTC flea repellant that works. This WORKS. For me. I can't guarantee it'll work for you, of course. I don't know you, I don't know your dog. Duh. Fleas are different all over the nation and some have developed immunity to this kind of repellant and some repellants just don't work. Disclaimer: I'm about to tell you what I do with this. If you decide to do the same, I take no responsibility for your results. I'm just saying this works for me. Ok, so I did some research on The Innernetz. I found out that if you get the extra large dog size, you get way more medicine for your money. It makes it cost way less per ml. I got this item. I got a little, airtight, really secure glass bottle, and a 1.0ml syringe. All from Amazon. The research I found said to use 1.2ml for a 25 pound dog. So at the beginning of every month, I open one extra large dog application, squirt it into the little glass jar, stick in the blunt syringe, and pull the plunger all the way, which is about 1.2ml. I then apply it on my dogs just as I would the small dog application. No fleas in our house. Thank GOD. Because once they get in, they're almost impossible to get rid of, and it's crazy-making. BTW, dusting diatomaceous earth and using an insect growth regulator are a good way to get rid of an infestation.

Works the 1st time! Even on ferrets
This is the ONLY brand I trust and will ever purchase. The formula is effective pretty quickly. My animals can't stand when I apply this to them but it is the only brand that I have found to ever kill and get rid of fleas completely, I've tried so many too! I use this on my ferrets too, but super carefully! I drip the formula into a glass vile and use a mL syringe. I've adopted many ferrets infested with fleas and this is the only formula that has ever successfully killed the fleas. It doesn't burn them, but they must be separated until it's completely dry or else they may get it in there mouths from playing with each other. Overall great product and a must-have in my home!

Kills fleas well normally, but some seasons fleas are particular difficult to control. This is a bad flea year for my area!!!
I have used this product for years on my dogs & can normally go as long as up to 8 weeks between doses. I have noticed that on some years (2014 & 2011) that the fleas are particular difficult to control. I know it is not due to this product not being effective because I have treated my yard with 2 different products that normally work very well within a 10 day period & even those products have made very little difference in the fleas. I have treated my dogs at 9 days & repeated again at 13 days. I am also using natural flea shampoo & topical sprays with essential oils. The fleas do die within 12 hours, but by that time my dog with allergies is a mess due to bites before they die. I am now seeing primarily very tiny fleas which tells me that I am achieving some control over the adult fleas. I dislike giving doses that close together, but that is what the insert recommends (actually every 7 days until controlled) for heavy flea infestations. One of my dogs has terrible flea allergies. He has been miserable & has been on prednisone & benadryl for over a month. I don't even like for him to be outdoors because they are so bad. I have to pick fleas off both dogs every time they step outside. I don't have any carpet in my home so I know they are not living in my house. It just seems that some years the fleas are just almost impossible to control. I am in Savannah, Ga. Last summer, the fleas were no problem at all. I did not even treat my lawn. I only gave Advantage every 6-8 weeks. The summer of 2011 was also a bad flea year. I'm not sure what is the cause, probably something to do with the weather or maybe they just have cyclic bad years (who knows). I thought this would be a mild year for fleas because the winter was so cold, but that apparently is not true. I have learned that unfortunately on bad flea years it will take a few months to get the fleas under control even using multiple products. Nothing much else you can do, but suffer until they are under control!!...............Update: After treating my yard with 2 different products within a month & treating my dogs with 3 doses (once every 10 days), the fleas appear to finally be under control. No fleas for 3 days!!! Allergic dog is finally getting some relief. Hopefully, I can now only treat my dogs monthly since I have gotten the severe flea infestation under control. It just takes a while to break the flea life cycle if you have a severe infestation..............UPDATE...Fleas are finally under control. Have not had to re-apply for 4 weeks. Just had a small flea on my allergic dog. Will re-apply today. Once you break the flea life cycle this will control the fleas. I buy the large dog size package & draw out the dosage for each dog with a blunt tip syringe. This is more cost effective & I have found that I can control the fleas by using a smaller dosage for my 30lb dog with allergies. The size package for his weight is a 2.5ml dose (weight range 21-55 lbs). He only weighs 30lbs & the weight limit is a very broad range for his size. The next smaller size range (10 to 20 lbs) is 1.0 ml so at approximately 0.5ml per 10 lbs, I don't feel he needs the entire 2.5ml dose & I have found that he does not. I normally am able to give him only 1.5 to 2.0 ml which will work fine once the severe infestation is under control. I don't like having to give chemicals to my dog & the less the better. He also has skin problems & the Advantage does seem to flare up his skin problems, so less is better. I am also able to give my cat a dose if he happens to pick up an untreated flea (he is an inside cat, but he will occasionally sneak out if he can). The Advantage is the same ingredients for dogs & cats (also confirmed with my vet), but the Advantix is NOT. DO NOT give Advantix to cats!

If you have a bunch of dogs and/or small, oddly-shaped fluffy dogs, get this.
To date, the only consistently-working topical flea treatment/medication I've tried that isn't either uselessly short-lived or just plain useless. The fleas in my house were out of control, and no amount of vacuuming, dusting, spraying, etc helped; applied Advantage II to all three of the house uh, dogs, and within 24 hours they were clear of the little bloodsuckers and a half-week later they'd managed to "infect" most of the fleas in the house as well. You might want to keep your pet(s) off the furniture for a day or so after applying: the fleas start losing motor control, spasming and falling off very soon after Advantage II contacts them. Don't be alarmed if your pet(s) start scratching more than usual after application, all the twitching going on by the dying fleas is quite itchy and the stuff itself is a mild skin irritant. Don't fall victim to the price-gouging more than you need to; buy bulk, the biggest Extra-Large Dogs package you can, and distribute it as needed between your indoor dogs and suspiciously-fluffy meowing dogs. You can find dosages both in other comments and other places online. For easy dosing, visit your local drugstore or livestock supply store and grab (1) a syringe capable of 0.1ml increments and (2) a small glass medicine bottle to empty the "vials" into. Bonus points if you can remove the tip of the syringe needle (I used a small metal file, jewelry wire snips might work too), as this makes the needle far safer to handle and it's useful for getting every last bit out of the bottle. Only open and use one vial at a time, close the bottle tightly and store in a cool and dark location between rounds of dosing to help keep it potent.

Works fast
My poor babies were infested with fleas. Everything else we tried didn't work. We tried going the all natural way using essential oils but they just had them so bad it wasn't working. We would give them a bath with soap mixed with varies essential oils but by the next day they were covered with fleas again. Before we applied this spot treatment we gave them both baths scrubbing every inch of them making sure we got rid as many as possible. I used an oatmeal soap to help prevent dry skin from bathing so much. After they were completely dry we applied the spot treatment according to the directions. We had to watch them while it dried to make sure they didn't lick themselves or each other. They both ended up get a little taste of it and did not like it at all so definitely watch your pup while you're waiting for the stuff to dry. Within the first 12 hours we only found 1 flea and it was half dead so it works fast. It's been a few days now and haven't seen any fleas since. We did wash all their blankets and couch covers and then steam cleaned the furniture. I vacuumed their beds and the carpet but didn't spray them so I worried maybe they'd get infested again but so far there's no sign of fleas. This stuff works great at killing fleas and preventing re infestation. I definitely recommend this product! My dogs are over 50 pounds so we got the extra large pack. Each pack comes with 4 treatments that last a month each. We just bought one box so with both dogs we'll get 2 treatments each which should be enough to get rid of the fleas for good.

Great product, great value- fleas are gone!
I've been using Advantage for flea control for several years, and Amazon is one of the best places to get it. You can't beat $10 a month for large dog flea protection. I also use one tube split into fifths (via syringe measurement) to give to my cats. Advantage II specifically is exactly the same product, in different dosages, for both dogs and cats. My 70-lb Lab gets a full 40 ml tube by herself, then the cats get 8 ml each and my brother-in-law's two ferrets get 4 ml each. I can cover 7 pets for $20 a month- a fantastic deal. The Advantage makes a noticeable difference in my pets' comfort- towards the end of the month, when it's wearing off, they begin to get itchy and uncomfortable. Once I reapply, that stops within a day or two, and they're happy and flea-free again all month. I have noticed that if our dog regularly gets into water (pool, beach, sprinklers), the Advantage wears off much quicker, despite claiming to be waterproof. That's understandable in a topical treatment, so we try to keep her out of water until the end of the application cycle, before a new treatment- then she gets to get wet to her heart's content! If you need to bathe your dog to kill fleas before applying, be sure to wait a day or two after the bath to give your dog's natural skin oils a chance to bounce back- it helps to distribute the medication. Be aware: this product is alcohol-based, and will evaporate quickly if left out in open air (we use a glass baby food jar to split the dosages in the syringe). It has also stripped the lacquer off the dining table when a few drops spilled while splitting doses, so try to avoid that too! Other than that, Advantage II is, in my opinion, the best topical flea control.

Okay for Relatively Safe, Basic Flea Protection
I guess it's back to the (relatively overpriced) brand now that the "Advantage II" generics for dogs seem to have all but disappeared, leaving those needing a proven safe product for just flea control, or an appropriately split-dosed option for multiple cats (NOT something that can be done with Advantix etc.) in a lurch. It seems Bayer sold off their Advantage line to Elanco, but hopefully the composition has remained the same and just as effective given that the price has stayed much higher than former equivalents like CrossBlock II and Combiva II.
