Ascension: Rise of Vigil Standalone Expansion

I love Ascension! (see all the 5-star reviews I've given). I admit I'm biased. But, even I must admit, Ascension: Rise of Vigil is THE set where Ascension went from being a very good deck-building game, to a GREAT deck-building game! No question about it. In geek terms, this is when Basic AD&D became Advanced AD&D, or when Star Wars went from A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back! From this set on, Ascension has gone from strength to strength and never looked back. If you have to buy only ONE set, make it this one. Though, I still recommend starting with the base set and going "in order" with your purchases.

I had wanted to try Ascension and this was a very good entry, especially since it comes with the play board for new players. I really like the speed of the game, the only thing that slows it down is teaching it to new players. Veterans can easily play through in about half an hour. A lot of fun if you like deck building games that hit the sweet spot of not to intricate and not to simple. It's also a great way to teach new players the concept behind deck building games to move on to the more involved games later.

I enjoy playing this with 2 players. The art is beautiful and unique. The game play may be random (the cards are randomized after all), especially with the energy shards. Still very fun to play, and a game lasts not more than an hour with 2 players.

If youve played the other versions, you will probably like this one also.However, without an expansion yet, the base game seems to be very unbalancedFans of the game beware:Your little sister will be able to win if she gets lucky. Its no longer about pure skill.

Ascension is an innovative type of card game that revolves around forming your strategy as you play the game. This is the fifth set of this game series and it continues to impress. The art for the cards is beautiful as well. You can tell the game creators care about making a worthwhile product.

I knew about ascension for a while.. never got around to playing it.. til recently. This game is amazing, it has depth, decisions, and the end game is hectic and full of triggers and cantrips. Highly suggest this game to anyone who is looking for a deep nice looking game

One of the best deckbuilding games i've played. it still tends to feel a bit like "multiplayer solitaire" but isn't nearly as bad as games like Dominion in that respect.

I bought this for my Husband and son. They're absolutely pleased with it. The game board is vibrant and the rules are easy to understand.
