Very good alternative to mount the Varia
I bought this thing because I was not confortable with the mount included with the RTL515, especially the rubber bands, with the sun and rain I have doubts about the durability. I did two things with this mount: 1) As other reviewers wrote the mount is 90% off, so you need to unscrew and put on the proper position to avoid the light ending up sideways. The funny thing is that in the package a smaller allen wrench is included to do this, so they know you will need to change the mount. I'm not sure why they don't do at the factory and avoid the cost of an additional wrench. Maybe they think some customers will use the mount as an alternative to Garmin quarter turn...who knows. In any case, not a big deal. 2) I changed the screw used on the mount (button head) for a M5 16mm (head cap), it is more secure, easy to adjust and less prone to strip...also is black vs. the silver screws included, personal preference. My bike is a Trek X-Caliber 9, with a Bontrager Arvada saddle, pretty common on Trek MTB line.

Solid light mount
I recently bought a bryton Gardia rear light and due to seat height and an eeSilk seatpost I couldn't use the stock seatpost mount for my gravel bike. I bought this even though it was designed for a Garmin light and swapped the quarter turn mount mount with a bryton compatibile one I had. I recommend adding extra loctite to all the bolts just case. So far I just have 50 miles on the mount, but it's super solid even on the roughest gravel rides. I really like how it attaches to the more vertical portion of the seat rails so it doesn't limit the adjustability of the seat. I'm running this work a wtb gravelier saddle.

Poor design and faulty packaging
I chose this mount given the angle adjustability of the mount for my Varia and the relative 'sturdiness' compared to the Garmin mount. The first one I got broke upon installation. It looks as though the tapped holes are too close (touching) the necked/reduced cross-section area for the saddle rails. The cast aluminum doesn't have the strength to hold a reasonable amount of force while mounting. It broke predictably at the reduction. I expect one off failures though, so I sent it back requesting a new one. The second one was delivered with no fasteners. I am frustrated enough at this point that I'm not willing to risk breaking another one. Even if I was able to install it without breaking the mount plate, I'd fear that I initiated a flaw that would grow with vibrational fatigue eventually causing me to lose my Varia.

Solved my problems!
The clamp style Varia mount works great for my road and gravel bikes, but my mountain bike was another story. I clamped the included Varia mount to the fixed upper portion of my dropper post and thought it would work. I then went out for a long road ride to one of my local trails. Along the way, while the light was visible above my rear wheel, the radar was partially blocked. This resulted in very late notifications on my Garmin head unit. By the time I heard the beep, the car was only 30-40 feet behind me. While I could have simply mounted the Varia upside down and then removed it when I reached the trailhead, it's not always top of mind and one seat post drop could destroy an expensive radar. As shown in the photos, the bracket mounted perfectly on my seat rails. It's well made and secured tightly with about 5 NM of torque. Happy I found this easy solution.

Great Varia Seat Mount - Simply needs a DYI Tweak
This mount is very well made, simple, has a nice bead blast finish with powder coating, and decent screws and even a bonus metric Allen wrench. The pivot mount allows you to adjust the angle to your exact needs. The only issue is the clamp contacts the seat rails directly so there is no compression to hold the mount in place with road bumps and vibrations. Suggest you add some tape or thin rubber to the seat rail and then apply the clamp and a little removable (blue) Loc-tite on the screws would also help hold it in place over time. The adjustable pivot is great and the mount's metal female receiver holds my Garmin Varia unit securely. In all, this is a great improvement over the rubber o-ring OEM Garmin mount !

Works great for securely attaching Garmin Varia to a Tubus rack
This mount worked well for attaching my Garmin Varia tail light to a tubus bike rack. From the rack, the radar activated light is ideally positioned to detect approaching trafiic. Very sturdy mount - highly recommend!

It should be a standard Garmin issue
This is a well made, metal mount that fits to the rails of the bike saddle. It is firm and stable, attached with an integral clamp and screws. You can adjust the tightness so as not to damage the rails. I was not happy with the rubber band mounts that Garmin supplies. The bands can snap, and the mount rotates when attaching the Varia. Not so with this saddle support. I do recommend also buying the GoTough 45 mm metal extension arm (link below) so that the Varia can protrude beyond the edge of the seat so you can still have an under-saddle utility bag. BTW with the extension, you will also need a 14mm 5.8-1 metric screw available at any hardware store. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I3P2VX8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
