Read the earlier books, not worth reading.
I love the earlier books. This one has too much recapping and the two lovers ARE TSTL. I agree with another reviewer who said all the recapping messed up the dialogue. For example, Anthony Malory comments to James on an event that was at least 15-20 years old and irrelevant to the current situation. It was just awkwardly thrown in. Also, there was WAY too much exposition. I was tired of reading explanations. Who are they that I should care about what they're doing? This is why I found it hard to care about the plot. I know that Percy was a blabbermouth from the earlier books, but in this book, she explained that he spoke without thinking Every Single Time he appeared in a scene. It's as if she was afraid readers might miss that when the actual dialogue could have shown without telling. But my main issue was Jack's attitude about sex before marriage. Spoilers below..... The idea that Jack is a rake like her father wasn't written well. Her father taught her to defend herself and be straightforward. Okay, fine. But why did she become a rake sexually? Her father was a man who had experienced things that made him jaded about sex and marriage in his youth. She was a virgin with no reason to be cynical or open to casual sex. She was aware that Damon's good look but the fact that he had Kidnapped her, hurt her brother, and put her family through stress made his looks irrelevant. But after on conversation, she's suddenly a lusty tigress who is desperate to jump Damon's bones? It made no sense for her to jump on him when (A) she had no plans to marry for a year (B) and definitely not to a man who kidnapped her to manipulate her family and Finally ( C) It's like 1800, she can't openly have casual sex before marrying. That was the whole reason several older characters suffered with bad marriages AND the very reason several Malorys' marriages came about. For example, Regina (mistakenly kidnapped by her future husband, forced to marry him after the story leaked to the ton) James ( his future wife's brothers forced him to marry their deflowered sister) Tony ( happily married his wife to save her from scandal AND forced marriage to another). Nobody 'tried' out their spouse to test compatibility. They chose to marry to protect someone's reputation after a something dramatic happened to force their hand. Fortunately, these are romance novels so all the main characters fall deeply and faithfully in love, and are forced to marry their perfect match. I didn't see mutual love growing through proximity in this story. She treated Damon like he was just a hot body that turned her on. At least he admired her bravery and fighting skills but what did she see in him besides his looks? He seemed pretty dumb because he kidnapped Jack (AGAIN) in a bogus, drawn out plot that could have been resolved if he had just written a reasonable letter explaining his legitimate personal issues with James instead of a vague ransom note. Like, " Hey, I was your next door neighbor in Anguilla (?) and my mom disappeared with you when I was 7. What's up with that? Meet me in... in a month's time.I still love Gentle Rogue best of all but it's time to let James mellow out. He should be a lot less notorious 20 years later. He wouldn't be causing a big stir at a balls anymore. He's at least 56-60 years old now and there are lots of new rogues.

Not so great
I think I'm done with these books. The random exclamation points drive me bonkers and yank me right out of the story. I expect better for a $13.99 ebook. I couldn't quite get into the Jack/Damon pairing either. Maybe because of the backstory that wasn't previously revealed, it's just instant animosity without any of the build-up that shows the spark of a coming relationship. Not my favorite Malory novel at all, that's for certain. (I'm starting to think JL has a ghostwriter, because the magic seems gone).Whoever edits these, for the love of GOD, lay off the exclamation points. They should be used very, very sparingly. (Not like these uses: i.e., I'll have what my mother is having if there's any left! or But Jack had already been made an aunt when her oldest brother Jeremy’s wife, Danny, had had twin girls seven years ago, the third set of twins in the family! - and too many more to list).

I feel so bad. I have been a JL fan since the early ʻ80s. This is not her writing. After the past several junky books, I still bought this one - hoping for the best. Really, if youʻve read Fires of Winter et. al., you already know this is NOT her writing. Fudge, even I could write a better ghost book. Totally disappointed.

Did Lindsey Write This Book?
I have been a fan of Johanna Lindsey since I read Captive Bride back in 1980s. Despite some of her hit-and-miss novels, I still kept on buying her books because she is a great storyteller. But 2 books in a row - Stormy Persuasion and Beautiful Tempest - stories of the 2 daughters of Lindsey's beloved Mallory characters just fell flat.Beautiful Tempest - I am not even sure Jack and Damon fell in love.....to me it was pure lust after all she wants to be a female rake like her father. Character development was weak. It was just a messy, boring, and downright annoying book. I thought I wasted my time reading the book. I should have stopped but I persisted hoping there is some redeeming plots.... but no. I should really give it a 1-star but its Johanna.... and I am still a fan - very much disappointed though - so I added another star.I feel cheated as this book cost $$. Would I buy another Lindsey's book? Maybe..... or maybe not.

Doesn't read like a Lindsey book... Very Disappointed...
This book has been very disappointing. The Malory's are some of my favorite all time books... But this one really fell short! It didn't really feel like Lindsey's writing style. The plot was weak and certain key moments of the book felt shallow and lacked depth. I found myself putting the book down repeatedly. I know I am in the minority here, but I cannot fathom what others found so great about it when you compare this book to the first... say 8 in the series. Cannot recommend it. It was a giant waste of money in my opinion.

The End
I didn't want this book to end. I didn't want this series to end. Talk about book hangovers - I'm going to have a big one. I want to thank Zoe Blake for recommending this author and James' story. So for the next 13 days I became part of the Malory-Anderson clan. Loving each book and finally coming to the last story - Jack the daughter of James. It is fitting that her story and James' legend would span books 11 and 12. It was a battle royal that will live on. I don't re-read books - but this series is a treasure. RIP Johanna Lindsey.

Another Fabulous Romance
This author hasn't lost her touch when it comes to romance storytelling, this book was fabulous. The characters were exceptionally well-written with all of the love and romance I enjoy in Johanna's romance stories. It was so nice to hear about all of the Mallory's and catch up on their lives and loves. This story was perfectly paced and had just the right amount of suspense, love and romance and gave me an amazing epilogue and ending to a five-star book. I only hope we have more from this author and series in the future.
