I'm impressed with imPress nails!
I saw a blurb somewhere about imPress press-on nails & did an internet search for more information. I found several positive reviews & decided to try the product myself...and I'm glad I did!Color Update 8/2013: I just saw Control Freak at a local store. The color has changed. It now has glitter in it & is a shade of pink. Totally different color than I purchased in Feb. 2013.Original review; this is the color I purchased in Feb. 2013:Color: Control Freak is a fuchsia shade with a little pearl in it.If you've used imPress Nails before, you probably don't need to read the rest of my review. My experience:After reading that colors are limited on store shelves, I decided to shop locally first anyway. I only found one color & some French tip ones at my local discount store. I decided to purchase the color, Control Freak. Even though the fuchsia color isn't a color I'd normally buy, it looks very good on me. I found that the thumbnails are almost too short for me - I even had to file my thumbnails down so the imPress nails would fit correctly. I had the same problem with my left middle finger & left ring finger.-First I removed my old polish, then washed my hands thoroughly with soap and water & dried my hands.-While I waited to be sure my fingernails were completely dry, I matched imPress nail sizes with my fingernails. It's better to go a little small than too large. I laid the imPress nails out according to the fingers the press-on nail matched so I wouldn't be guessing which nail went where.-I filed my nails that were too long then decided to wash my hands again to get rid of those fingernail shavings. When my nails were dry, I used the included alcohol wipe on my nails. Now I was ready to apply the imPress nails.-Be sure you apply the nail with the cuticle side facing your cuticle. This is important because the glue doesn't cover the tip of the nail. Pull off the plastic that is covering the glue & apply the nail at a slight angle getting as close to your cuticle as possible. -Then press down the middle of the nail, then press the sides.-Apply the thumbnails last.-I used the small file that is included in the package to shape the imPress nails. This went quickly. I was glad I took the time to do this because the imPress nails are now shaped the way I shape my nails.-Wait 30 minutes before you put any water on your hands. I waited overnight.I went about my daily routine which usually isn't too rough on my nails....washed a few dishes, shampooed my hair, showered, prepared meals, cleaned the house, etc. After 3 days, a nail popped off when I caught it on a knob. My daughter had some old nail glue from Kiss nails. I used that & glued the imPress nail back on. After 4 days, my pointer finger lost a nail. There was no reason for this, it just started coming off. I glued that back down too. I'm in my 5th day & haven't had any more nails pop off. Now my fingernails are growing so the imPress nail is moving away from my cuticle. What I don't like:I don't like that the thumbnails are so short!I don't like that I had to apply two of the nails a little above my cuticle (one thumbnail & one ring finger) because the imPress nails were short.I don't like that even though there are 24 nails in a package (for extras) that the extra nails are small & aren't helpful to me.There aren't enough neutral shades for my age group...suffice it to say that I am young-at-heart.What I like:The imPress nails almost look real; after 5 days, they are still shiny & look like my nails have been freshly manicured. They stayed on much better than I ever imagined they would. They are easy to use.I will update my review & let you know how long I can make these last & my experience with removing them when I have to.By the way...Control Freak is a fuchsia shade with a little pearl in it. I have a fair complexion with pink undertones... like I mentioned earlier, I'm young-at-heart...and this color looks nice on me. Even my fashion conscious daughter agrees. Local stores charge around $4.97 - $5.99 for the solid color nails & $6.49 - $7.99 for the patterned nails.~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE:I removed the nails today, 11 days after I applied them. My own nails grew during that time & the imPress Nail was was moving away from my cuticle which didn't look good. It wasn't easy taking most of the imPress Nails off. I soaked a Q-tip in finger nail polish remover & held it to each side of the imPress nail. I had to work my fingernail under the fake nail to lift it up so the nail polish remover could get under the fake nail. I noticed that a thin layer peeled off of some of my fingernails during the process which is something (peel) my nails tend to do anyway. I'm going give my fingernails a 24 hr. rest before I apply any more imPress nails & will update my review if/when necessary.
