Outdoor Research Men’s Astroman Sun Hoodie – Lightweight Long Sleeve Hoodie

Nice and lite, comfortable, and value got it at a great price

I bought the Astroman (white) and two other top-rated shirts after reading the reviews at Outdoor Gear Lab. What's great: Although the Astroman was rated behind the top 3, I like it better because the fabric is really lightweight and it feels cool to the touch. I've worn it almost a dozen times in the heat and it feels comfortable, while warding off direct sun. The 1/4 zip on front helps with ventilation. The shirt also works well as the evening starts to cool down. It has a useful front zip pocket and it packs down to nothing. What would make it better: The hood doesn't have a cinch, which would be a nice-to-have.

I hike in the desert and his is an amazing sun hoodie. Most sun hoodies don't have technical features like a zippered pocket, zippered chest, and collared front neck. This has all of that and still weighs almost nothing. My only potential criticism is perhaps the thumb loop and cuff could be done a bit better. I will warn you that this will show the sweat (I have the pebble) for those of you who go directly from the trail to get a bit to eat.

Only Nylon sun-hoodie on the market. Suggestions: 1) Make torso longer; am having to sew a 4" strip to the bottom of each shirt to make it long enough. 2) Sun hoodies should come in white option; their purpose is to reflect sun, not absorb sun. Have de-colorized a couple to make them bright white. Nevertheless, am on fourth Astroman because they are so awesome. Polyester simply can't compare.

I take skin care and sun protection very seriously. I have multiple sun shirts, ones from Mountain Hardware, ones from Baleaf, ones from Willit, but this sun hoodie is the best. The fabric is light, cool to the touch, it is very good at dissipating heat, the front zipper helps to dump heat, it has a zipper chest pocket, but above all I think the hood design is wonderful. The scuba hood is designed to be used with helmet or caps, the good thing about it, is that when you put it on, it contours around the cap and it doesn't get blown away by gusts of wind easily. The sun protection it offers in combination with the cap itself is top notch. My only complain are the thumbholes, I think Baleaf shirt are much much better in this aspect. Just wait for a sale before you buy, most of time the price is reduced between 40-50%.

Great wind blocker packs small. It does not wick moisture well, take some time to dry out.

Probably fine if you are using this more as a windbreaker over a light shirt, because that’s how the material feels. But not comfortable directly on skin as a shirt. Returned after trying on.

This sun hood is great. Used it several times doing a fantastic job. Only downside in my opinion, I wish It had a drawstring around the hood. If your not wearing a hat or helmet the hood is a bit oversized and slides forward reducing your peripheral vision pretty significantly. Would have gladly spent an extra $30 on top of the jacket price if it has this feature. Overall very happy with the purchase
