Comprehensive, literate and insightful.
I'm going into 11th grade this year and decided to pull the trigger on this guide in hopes of acquiring precious cognizance of the unique aspects each of the colleges throughout the USA has to offer. I've only briefly skimmed through it - paying slightly more attention to the distinguished Ivy League schools - but I've greatly appreciated the detail of what I've read. The guide provides statistics, historical accounts, and academic information on each of the schools, as well as valuable, unvarnished insight into their respective atmospheres (often from a student's point of view). There's also a "Best Buys" page, which is essentially the 20 (10 private, 10 public) best colleges from a price/value standpoint. It's very reassuring to know that whenever I have any questions, uncertainties regarding a particular college, I can always refer to this book to answer. Very satisfied and definitely recommend.

Information available online
The details of the colleges are all available online. Not very useful

Ratings rather than rankings of colleges
Using this for the second time for kid #2. What I find useful and unique about this guide are the student comments about what it’s like to attend a particular school. And unlike online forums, their feedback is probably more balanced, representative, and not overly biased towards a particular viewpoint. I also appreciate the curation of less familiar schools (at least to me) with good academic programs.

My wife likes it, but why did we buy it when this information is all online?
Voluminous and full of great content, but so much of it is found online already...
