This was a very high quality product! I had to return it, though, bc despite the pictures, it doesn’t work at all stairs…decorative flares and just the way different stairs are made will affect whether or not you can use this at a staircase. My banister and handrail came down a half inch too far and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to work where I needed it to. I used it in my hallway for a little while (that’s how I know how well it works). I used this as a dog gate and my dog is HUGE but never body slammed into the gate, just for reference.The automatic gate closure is awesome and works really well and smoothly if you have the gate installed correctly! The opening is also a very decent size (many are VERY narrow! Hard to get yourself through, let alone with a laundry basket!) and it’s heavy duty, not lightweight.I have since switched to one that has a cat door in it since I’m using it to keep my dog out of the cats’ area when I’m not home, and the one I have now is completely inferior to this one. The only reason that I use it instead of this one that is a much better product is bc I need the cat door feature where I’m now using it, which this one doesn’t have. But like I said, this gate is a superior product!

Bought this so we could let my Golden Retriever out on the deck without having to have his tie-out on. Really easy to install, fit snug to the stairs and the dog can't jump over it. All wins! Wish it had a bigger door but it works just fine. Locks well, dog can't get through even with pushing!

I wanted to protect my grandchildren from my stairs. Without using screws this lends a dangerously false sense of security.Neither the description on Amazon nor the included instructions recommend using the mounting hardware provided, ESPECIALLY at the top of stairs. THE BOX DOES give the warning (partially hidden under the shipping label), but not everyone reads everything on the outside of boxes. I would like to have known before ordering. I was specifically looking for a gate that didn't required drilling.After spending a lot of time researching, it turns out that almost all gates at the top of stairs require drilling to be safe. So I bit the bullet and drilled for the top gate. Unfortunately, since my newel posts are much wider at the bottom, I couldn't make the gate fit with the cups and screws, nor tighten the gate very well at the bottom. I've ordered zip ties for extra security on the bottom, and at least the top is securely fastened with screws.I'm not sure zip ties would work easily at the top - the gate needs the pressure to close properly and zip ties would work at cross-purposes by pulling and easing the pressure.I also have the same gate at the bottom of the stairs. It did not stay put on the first step, but when I lowered it to the floor it's more stable now because the bottom step prevents it from being pushed in one direction.I've added a couple stars because:-once I figured out what best to do with the gates, I think they'll perform well.-even though it's past the return date, the seller is refunding my money.

This gate works great at the top of the stairs of our split level to keep our elderly dog safe! She likes to hang over the top step to look towards the door and in her older age is not as stable on her feet. We had been moving a old child gate back and forth everytime we had to go up/down and it was super annoying. The fact this gate auto closes OR will stay open when it’s open wide is everything. It’s like it’s not even there. We bought the wall nanny’s to protect the wall/railing and then didn’t need to use two sections of the gate as it expanded wide enough with those to fit perfect.

I got this gate when my dog was getting elderly to keep him safely away from the stairs after he fell down them. Poor old man was having troubles with balance and eyesight. After he sadly passed, I got a new puppy, and now I'm back to buy more. These are lovely and worth every penny. I had one of the cheap wooden ones from Walmart, but it takes two hands to remove and install, which is such a pain and completely impractical for long-term use. Once my new order arrives, I'll have one installed on each bedroom door, one in the kitchen, and another for the stairs. I don't anticipate needing all of them once housetraining is complete, but they're a lifesaver during the puppy training stage to keep belongings safe from teeth and the floors dry.

I like the gate and it opens way easier than my last one..However, it has latch at the bottom of the gate that has no way of releasing so when you open the top latch then the bottom one stays in place not allowing the gate to open. Had to tape the bottom so the gate opens..Nothing was explained about it in the paperwork..

This gate has been excellent. Our “Houdini” German Shepherd grand dog has not figured out how to open it. He is amazing and can open other gates, but this one has been too difficult so far! Great design!

Looks great with my metal banister. Keeps the puppy from chewing anymore of my 5 yr olds beloved Barbie dolls.
