What a Ride! (via Audible) - I'm now bereft
I was recommended this series to listen to on Audible, read by Marc Thompson. The narrator is excellent and an essential part of my enjoyment of the story of Thrawn, a member of the Chiss Ascendancy; equally an oddball and/or strategic genius. This is the final of the prequel trilogy series of how Thrawn came to be where he was in the first set of books. This one focuses on the outside threat to the Chiss Ascendancy that only a few are able to grasp and are willing to jeopardise their whole careers for alongside Thrawn - so they can save their people. Listening via Audible to the final chapters of the book was addictive and I really struggled to do anything else until it had finished. The author has an amazing skill when writing about military strategy and battles and I was emotionally drawn in to the story conclusions and the characters.

So-so End to So-so Trilogy
Predictably underwhelming. It never feels like there are any true stakes or dangers. The entire trilogy exists purely to put Thrawn in position for the previous new canon trilogy, and it takes the straightest, most rote path to get there. At least there's a bit more villain plot this time, but we never get any sort of motive for Jixtus's plot. Once again he's effortlessly and lazily outmanoeuvred by Thrawn, with absolutely no losses along the way. This book, and by extension, this trilogy, are among the blandest Star Wars novels out there. They're not necessarily bad, per se, they're just not particularly interesting.

Scuffed copy, probably used or mishandled
I've heard nothing but good things about this book and was looking forward to finally reading it, but I won't be keeping this particular copy! When I buy something in "New" condition, I EXPECT IT TO BE THAT WAY, not scuffed, bent and scratched as if it's been used as a doorstop at Amazon's distribution centre! No chance this was just down to the cardboard packaging either, not to this extent. I appreciate the 'green' packaging, but not the lack of care before it reaches that stage.Looks like I'm going to Waterstones for this one, as they've got it at the same price. No doubt it'll be in better condition too.

Star Wars at its best
The Thrawn Ascendancy is a great series for fans of the blue skinned admiral. Recommended reading for SW fans

Timothy Zahn knocks it out of the park with this one!
Timothy Zahn did a truly fantastic job with this book, and it is such a great wrap-up to the Ascendancy trilogy. This is a much stronger Thrawn book than Greater Good (which was still very enjoyable for me but it didn't captivate me like Zahn's other books); it is fast paced with amazing battle sequences, it has some very interesting world-building by delving into the history of the Chiss, and it really adds substance to the fracturing political scene in the Ascendancy. To me, the end of Greater Good felt a little to clean and tidy, so I'm glad Lesser Evil really goes into depth about the political ramifications from the previous book. This book is not always focused on Thrawn, and while I understand why others might dislike that, I found I was actually perfectly okay with it because the other characters have been so well-developed that I was truly interested in their stories. There is a pretty large cast of characters in this, but again, I actually found that very enjoyable. I love that Zahn delves into the history of Thrass, as it adds some more dimension to Thrawn's usually aloof character. However, I do agree what what many others have said about Thrawn being too "strong" in these books. Yes, he's a tactical genius, but the fact that he never loses takes away some of the tension. That said, I still found the battle sequences riveting, especially the last one in this book.Zahn also did a great job with the world-building of the Chiss Ascendancy and the Unknown Regions in this book. He gives so much detail on the politics and history of the Chiss, as well as a plethora of other alien species, and I really hope we get to see more in the future. This adds so much to the story and all of the characters.Even though we know that Thrawn will eventually end up in the empire, this book did a great job of tying in the story with Thrawn (2017). Throughout the Ascendancy trilogy, we get to see how Thrawn has made friends and inspired loyalty from those around him, and it made the ending of Lesser Evil more powerful and even a bit emotional. The one weak point this novel has would have to be the villain, Jixtus. He just was not intimidating at all. We have seen him lose time and time again, and there is simply nothing frightening about him. However, I didn't feel that a lack of a good villain took away from the story all too much, since Zahn has done such a great job with the protagonist characters, immense world-building, and the exciting battle sequences.Overall, this was such an exciting read, and I was truly hooked from beginning to end. I loved the characters, the action was exciting, and it opened up so many new possibilities for the Star Wars world. I really hope Timothy Zahn will return to write even more about Thrawn and the Ascendancy. If you enjoyed the previous Thrawn books, this one will absolutely not disappoint!

Buona conclusione, ma non il migliore dell’autore.
Qualità della scrittura eguaglia i precedenti volumi. La conclusione amara, ma giusta ed in linea col personaggio. Assolutamente raccomandabile per ogni appassionato.

Very quick delivery and very satisfied overall
Good price and quick delivery, overall very satisfied with the how the product was handled and how quickly it go to me, even during Covid. As for the book itself, I thoroughly enjoyed it, although it is not necessarily something I would recommend for every Star Wars fan to read and definitely not something who is just looking to get into the world of SW books. You pretty much require a deep knowledge and thorough understanding of not only the Ascendancy trilogy, but all the previous works of author Timothy Zahn in order to enjoy it. If you are a massive fan of his work or enjoy stories about Thrawn or the Chiss Ascendancy, like me, then it is a must-read though.
