Great Music - Confusing CD Title
Wes Montgomery's discography has always been rather confusing, and this release only serves to further muddy the waters. This CD is titled "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery." Unfortunately, there's already a legitimate studio release by that same name with a different set of tracks on it. That's probably why the Amazon track listing is completely wrong. The music on this CD (release in 2003 by Definitive Records) draws from 2 obscure 1965 sessions as follows:from "Special Broadcast Jam Sessions"1. Caravan2. Round About Midnight3. Four on Six4. Here's That Rainy Dayfrom "In Europe 1965:5. Twisted Blues6. Four on Six7. Here's That Rainy Day8. Blue MonkThese tracks match the CD cover art that Amazon has uploaded, so I assume that's what you'd get if you order it. But that CD has the tracks I listed, not the ones Amazon has shown (those are from the other album by the same name).Assuming you're still with me, the first four tracks of this import CD capture the entire "Special Broadcast Jam Sessions" release, which was recorded in February 1965 at the Half Note. Note that there is also a well-known album called "Smokin at the Half Note" which was recorded in 1965 as well, but these tracks were recorded months before that session was taped. This CD has that entire concert, except for the exit music, so it's worth picking up just for that set.The last four tunes were recorded in Germany during a European tour in 1965. This concert originally included a number of additional tracks not included here. But it's unclear if those tracks are even available for release, so this may be all you can get on CD at this time. Both sets are recorded with decent sound quality, and the playing is excellent. It's just unfortunate that they picked this title for the CD, as it will really confuse Wes Montgomery fans looking at the cover. The liner notes do clearly spell out when and where each set was recorded, but you'd have to buy the CD and open it up to see that only the first 4 cuts were recorded at the Half Note. The bottom line is this: If you're a Wes Montgomery fan who already has most of his primary recordings, this would be a great addition to your collection. But if you're new to Wes's music, I'd suggest you start with "Full House" or "Smokin' at the Half Note." Those albums are top notch in every respect, and would be a better starting point for someone wanting to hear this amazing guitarist at his peak.

This is a great album
This vinyl album sounds great. No skips, scratches. The red colour is nice. If you like jazz, this will be a great addition to your collection.

Maravilloso!

Buon ascolto...
