Yes the smell does go away eventually after repeated use!

Q: how do you clean this mat?

Hi there, I would recommend washing it with soap and water and then hang it to dry it off however it could also be cleaned in a machine using gentile cycle (no bleach) and then hang it to dry it off. I hope that helps!

Q: Can it be easily cut to fit shower floor?

It can be cut, its just heavy plastic. It might be more comfortable to use a sharp box knife, than scissors, due to the massaging bits
