Great police procedural
Considering that this book was written in 1957, the plot definitely is novel. What seems to be a straight forward case becomes more and more complex as the book progresses. However, the ending seemed to be rushed.

A masterpiece
A very cleverly plotted and meticulously researched story. Mostly howdunnit, but there are unexpected turns in whodunnit also. Matsumoto appears to be the predecessor of Higashino, another master.

wordy
It is an interesting and very convoluted plot but very enjoyable. I liked the letter writing device but I did find it overall rather wordy.A splendid ending, though.

Good book, nicely translated.
Very pleasing mystery book set in Japan around the 1950's . Not overly long at around 160 pages. The translation to English is well done. I would buy more books by the author

Not bad and not great.
It’s okay and a quite short story. Sometimes it gets very confusing with the names and time. I would recommend it but there are certainly better reads available :)

Points and Lines
This book was translated before and its title was Points and Lines. I did not realize “Tokyo Express” and “Points and Lines” were one and the same. I wish they had told me beforehand. That complaint aside, Tokyo Express is a very interesting story, despite the fact that the trick seems very banal in this digital age after the trick is revealed to the reader. This book made me realize once again that it is difficult to emulate how Seicho Matumoto writes. He was a prolific writer and I hope to see his books translated into English more. The translation is of the top quality.
